Purely me spitballing here but I think the jets have Connor deal
Done but are trying to get Laine to sign his bridge so they can announce at the same time and be protected against an offer sheet if they announce connor first. Problem is I can see Laine wanting his big money now and his agent is waiting for the jets to announce Connor so he can then sign the offer sheet and make it really hard for the jets to match as they would have to trade someone to clear space.

I think that Mooshead line with Ehlers was Max Fortier and Timo Meier .
- jetsnation

That rings a bell, didn’t Ehlers also play a little Center in Halifax?

He’s 22 years old. How much more time would you give him? The Jets don’t believe in him as a Center or else they would have already played him there. Scheifele at 18 was not put on the wing and was consistently brought up as a Center every time he was put on the team.

Wheeler didn’t play in the league until he was 22, players develop at different rates all the time. Sheifele had the benefit of playing on a bad team and getting lots of ice time with the best players on the team to develop and ride out his Bambi years. Roslovic hasn’t been given the same path

I am not done believing that Roslovic can be a #2 center in the NHL. That said there is no shame in being a winger if you are better at it.

Letestu has played center his whole career and it would not make any sense to have him play the wing on roslovic's line but can work with Rosy on the wing. Letestu has some mentorship qualities that Roslovic will benefit from.

the best franchises/dynasties brought most of their prospects along slowly/steadily (exception of the Oilers who were gifted a powerhouse when they entered the league). Montreal, Detroit, Bruins etc. When Roslovic's day comes it will be a bit of a surprise to the rest of the league to encounter a young player with a rounded game and getting the details right.

If Maurice won't play him at center in a preseason game but gives Gustafsson a center spot, which is what the lines look like according to the oilers blog, then it's over for Roslovic at C.

Roslovic is hoping that Laine doesn't sign until November. It would give him 1 month to prove that he is a legit top 6 winger. If the jets have everybody signed by game 1 he is nothing more than checking winger for the Jets

Big difference Wheeler played 1 year in the USHL and stayed in college for 3 years and Roslovic turned pro after 1.

Gustafson will be playing Center in Sweden this year and Roslovic is starting on the wings in Winnipeg, don’t read too much into pre season

when Little was #1c and slater was #3? big difference in the situation. The Jets have the luxury of time because they are so young and talented already.

So how has Roslovic been developed differently than Petan?

Furthermore they are not very young or talented at Center. The teams biggest weakness.

I'm not talking who will or won't be on the jets. All i am saying is If the jets won't use the preseason to play Roslovic at center, then people should give up any hope that he has a future as one.

Where is Rexypoo? I need him to tell everybody when players hit their peak, remembering that Roslovic will be 23 in January?

The development path is similar, the difference is in the players. Roslovic is showing growth and is an NHL talent, still adding much needed muscle.

its too soon to concluded that, maybe next year this time we can be more sure. More physical strength will help.

I liked what i saw from Seuss, Roslovic, Luoto, Pionk, Appleton, Gustavson and Comrie (didn't like his reaction to the first goal against - he looked defeated for a moment)

Poolman, Beulieu, Lipon, Chibisov, Bourque, Stanley need to show more, maybe some nerves/settling in needs to happen. Maybe just off-games but there are no excuses for down time when trying to make the team.

Klefbom played a great game for the oil.

I kind of liked what of I saw from Luoto, Roslovic, Gustaffson (he'll be going back to Sweden though), Chibisov and ???? - perhaps Appleton later in game. Hopefully Pionk has another gear. Let's face it, though these guys had a though day, practice in Wpg, flight, practice and game all on the same day. Tough sledding!

So hard to tell in game one.

McDavid's mouth must be watering if he was to face the Jets d last night.

Interesting thought Ross, although I think it would be pretty hard for Chevy to tell Connor to stay away from camp even though they have agreed to terms.

Peter, where is the Laine article this morning?

The man essentially said that he was better than Kyle Connor. He said that Little and Ehlers are horrible line mates and that he needs elite players to make him better.

Question is: when does Byfuglien throw his clothes into the shower this year?

LOL

I truly hope Laine didn't say that about Connor or that his thoughts about him not being on the top line are inaccurate. Let face it though, Wheeler is one of the best right-wingers in the league and his passing skills are one of the best in the league. Laine is far better for the time being to be on a the second line as a 20-year-old where he is a bit more sheltered from the chequing lines. Connor is also the better play hands down. I don think that Laine will become a big powerful player and has tons of upside to come as he learns the defensive things and positioning needed to be a top-line player. However to say these things now shows huge immaturity. I'm now think ing a trade is entirely possible.

On a related note. How is it possible that virtually every player Rexy promotes on here has their career go down in flames or is traded. You all know the list well by now. Is Laine going to be the latest victim ? I sure hope not, but seriously, I hope he doesnt start promoting the merits of Connor or Roslovic.

The crux of the matter is the Jets need a very good second-line center to work with Laine and they dont seem to have that player as of yet. They traded 2 firsts for Statsny and Hayes and neither of them stayed despite Chevy's efforts to keep Statsny.
So it sounds like Laine does want to stay in the Peg but his only problem seems to be having a center he can gel with. I was hoping Roslovic was that guy but it doesn't seem he is ready yet. One wonders if Connor is capable as a center. I'd love to see that experiment becuase the Jets cant afford a center the calibre of say a Taylor Hall so we are kinda forced to grow one from within. Laine may just have to be patient.

Looking at Chevy's drafting record. He has only hit one home run in the past 9 drafts on getting a legit #1 Center. Its clear that the Jets don't see Roslovic as that guy, or else they would be getting him that experience in the preseason.

I know hindsight is 20/20, but just imagine if the Jets chose Aho at the spot that Roslovic was taken.

Also, the Jets have many top flight wingers. We may need to trade one or two of them together to get that coveted center.

Furthermore, seeing what St. Louis did in the past 3 years, they were able to restock their center depth while trading away Stastny through making smart trades that got them Schenn and O'Reilly. So trading for a great center is not out of the question either.

Same here. Pionk was just tiny Myers, and Stanley somehow had to carry a pairing okayishly

What?? What article did you read cause it clearly wasn’t the Laine one where he never mentioned a single Jet name and actually said he loves Winnipeg and doesn’t want to be traded. Or did you not read the entire thing?

It’s comical and ridiculous the reporting on tsn and sportsnet that keep saying the Jets window is shut now!!! How dumb can these guys be? Seriously!!!!!

We are one of the youngest teams in the league!!!
Schiefle, Morrisey, Ehlers, Wheeler, helle all locked up long term at a great overall cost

Connor, Laine, Roslovic, Vesalainen, Niku, heinola, Samberg, berdin. All under team control for 5 + years!!!! Can be used or traded to fill holes

Copp, Lowry, Perreault, little, Buff all solid players under contract passed this season

We have not yet traded any future first round picks.

This teams window is open for the next decade, anyone writing our obituary before this season or the next 7 seasons have even begun are idiots
