Well Rick Nash at age 20 averaged a point per game, something that Laine has yet to do.
But besides that, this cheat code you speak of. It did not work for 64 games last season, or in mathematics terms, over 75% of the season. - TheUltimateJet
Rick Nash put up most of his points in Columbus didn't he? Would that not be a good spot for Patrik? Maybe he could, heaven forbid, play 1st line with PLD?
So Werenski++ for a "generational scorer?" |

Buff reported contemplating future. Now isn't flippin' wonderful news!
If he retired, does anyone know if or what salary cap affect this might have on the Jets? |

I much preferred the other Buff rumour - that he wasn’t coming back if Laine was on the team. |

You never know, there might be something to that, maybe on the team or off the team? We'll probably never know.
One can always wonder if he's thinking "Why bother if they don't shore up the D" But we all can speculate. Who knows, maybe he's just had enough of the grind?
He's a big man, getting older, and more injuries. |

Several things come to mind regarding Buff. His ankle injury late last season may be worse than we know. He might not care about the money anymore as his life seems to be relaxing and fishing. Liane.....who knows.....did he not yell at Laine once last year to " get moving " . He's a pretty judgmental guy so it could also be Maurice.
Lots to ponder. Such a problematic start to the Jets season with all the lost UFA's , RFA contract problems, Buff, car crashes, etc. |

Ya Roslovic could work but I’d prefer bean or even fleury than a pending UFA who won’t sign here
Also hope the jets are in on Honka |

He's got an NTC and really likes the area, so maybe he'd sign an extension in Winnipeg. Hard to say. |

Fact remains that Laine had a bad season last year. When he was on the ice at 5-on-5 last year, the opposition created and capitalized more on offense than his team did.
His powerplay production kept him as still being a net positive, but nowhere near as impactful as he should have been because of how dismal his play away from the puck has been. |

How much more depth on the wing do we need? It's our deepest position. Wheeler, Connor, Ehlers, Laine, Roslovis, Appelton, Vesalainen, Perreault, etc.... Copp and Little are also good wingers if they have to play that position.
Center is this teams biggest weakness. - TheUltimateJet
Very true. Unless Ras can become our 2C this season. He really has not disappointed in any situation at this point in his career and probably should be pushed into the 2nd unit to see what he can do. We know that Little is not enough, and should start digressing. I expect big things out of Roslovis, Appelton, Vesalainen, whether they are playing wing or centre. And the RD is starting to look like a big unknown! |

Really? completely?
So now if we don't sign both Connor AND Laine we won't hit the cap floor without signing someone?
Is there a big $$$ d-man out there that's worth a trade. One that might be available? Preferably, a must-be, RH?
And no, it won't be Ehlers!
Wonder how the contract talks went with Dylan Samberg? I believe he is a free agent next year if not re-signed by, what, July 1? If Samberg gives any indication he doesn't want to play in Canada, can see his rights being used as a trade chip. |

Rexy I really do not understand how you can defend Laine. He does not create chances for himself, and is simply the worst player I have ever seen in the NHL when not shooting the puck. In a dream world, he gets offer an sheet by Ottawa, and the jets get 4 potential lottery picks. Then he can be "top-line" as he claims he deserves. Then we will see him for the player he truly is. On Ottawa he would be 25 goals, 12 assists (2 primary), and a -44. He can't be compared to guys like Nash of OV, who drive the wing and generate offensive chances. He camps at the top of the circle and is a massive liability when the puck goes leaves the offensive zone. Whatever happens, he will surely cause an offensive collapse of his future line-mates. |

Think there might be a reason that Patrik and PK were voted by about 200 of their peers as the most-overrated players in the league late last season?

Find me the article where he says these things you are saying for him with all these names mentioned. If you cant, retract.
Ehlers, Trouba, Roslovic have all in the past said the same things about linemates. Wheeler has made it clear he only wants to play with 55. Wheeler sat out until he was 22 cause he didn’t want to play in Arizona. Connor is still not signed? Is he saying he needs ten million and wants more Money that all these guys cause he’s better or is it ok to make stuff up about Laine but not Connor? Why are you judging Laine differently than the rest? - Ross77
No need to retract... even those in Weyburn trying to learn to play the banjo understand the direct implication that if you think the line you are playing on is sub-par is a comment on the quality of your teammates.
Laine said he 'deserved to play with the best players, everyone who knows hockey understands that' --- implication is that Little and Ehlers are not at his standard. If he wants to move up a line to play with Sheifele then the implication is that Connor (and perhaps Wheeler) aren't as good as him. Pekka Jelonen, a Finnish reporter, extrapolated that to become a comment on needing a different centre than Little (i don't disagree with that). All this is a fairly direct comment on the decisions of the coach and the 'anyone who knows hockey' statement is off-side.
Is there any disagreement with the rest of my statement about the gaps in his game and what he needs from teammates to be successful? |

generous to include the pp to make him a net positive. I it was Ehlers, Perreault, Roslovic or whoever in his place there still would have been pp production. Perhaps not at the same rate but could also be very good. |
