that's right, unless they need him on emergency recall - Lunaion
but they would have to go through every other player under the 50 contracts, not with the big club first
usually that only happens for a goalie, or if the ahl and echl teams are too far away to get another body to the sabres |

IMO if this team makes the playoffs w/o Cozens, they should probably be the guys that determine how we do in the post season
Cozens will be playing playoff games for the last 8 or so regular season sabre games
There is a reason Herb Brooks left Tim Harrer off the roster - homiedclown
If this team is a playoff caliber team, Cozens should have no bearings on it one way or the other. He will either be a compliment to a solid team or a bright spot on an under-achieving team.
And I really don't see him making an impact until 2021. |

In the 1982-83 season, former sabre Rob McClanahan had his best NHL season at the age of 24
in 78 nhl games he had 22 goals and 48 points, also chipped in 7 points in 9 playoff games
then never sniffed the nhl again

Wow. Fresh off a ban. This place is horrible. You refs need to pull your head's out of your asses and stop banning the wrong people for stuff that isn't even a bannable offense or directed at a particular individual.
An absolute joke.
And as far as Fitz goes, you sir, are such a little snitch I don't care if I get banned anymore. You are un-believable.
I absolutely WILL keep bouncing my IP and making new accounts if I get perma-banned, too. So go ahead and hit report, dude, we all know you're going to. - BeadyEyedDouche

or if he earns a spot in 9 games, he can stick
I mean either you can be open minded, or you can't
which is it?
again we will know a lot more about cozens and the 19-20 season in a few weeks
let it play itself out, our gm is, why can't you? - homiedclown

.
. Jimmy Vesey-Jack Eichel-Conor Sheary
The burgeoning trend in the NHL is to split up the best players to provide more depth. Krueger certainly did that. The line of Skinner-Eichel-Reinhart was Buffalo’s only productive trio last season, and the coach wiped it out with a few swoops of his pen.
Skating on Eichel’s left wing was a nice “welcome to Buffalo” gift for Vesey.
7. Devante Stephens-Zach Redmond
Redmond has an AHL contract, and Stephens is hoping to play in Rochester after spending most of last season in the ECHL. - Boss34
Great share. Where is this from?
Skinner on the 3d line is a surprise. |

you are not wrong, but it's the same at every job. they keepold, pot-bellied guys in managerial roles and they literally just throw temper-tantrums all day long instead of working, and when they do work, they're physically incapable of it.
I really wish they would get pushed out into being the wal-mart greeters they should be. - BeadyEyedDouche

No matter what you send him down
If he gets like 9pts or something crazy then he stays - gerbe75pts
As soon as Cozens looks lost or shows that he can't keep up he will be sent down. There's nothing but positives with having him at camp with the big boys and let him have a taste in preseason games. If he handles that well, then you could consider keeping him around for the start of season for a few games. Let him work with the big club and then turn him loose on the kids in Junior with a good idea of what it takes to make it in the NHL. Cozens himself will determine when he goes back to his Junior team. |

It's not going to happen, but that's not quite accurate. If they fell below 12 healthy forwards on the NHL roster, they could recall him instead of someone in Roch. They won't do it, but they technically could. |

If he’s truly good his game will develop better here than he will in ROC. The question is possibility that his body needs to develop for his personal safety, not how to best develop his game.
The way the game is evolving, I think there’s less concern for real injury than there was even when Samson was kept out for a year. It’s just more of a speed and finesse game, now. |

NHL is moving towards this, superstars getting paid and the middle tier lower players won’t. They will be able to fill their roster. If not no one is hanging up if they offer Marner in a trade. Some team would pay. Same with Tampa, people will pay for superstars. - Fattony1187
Good article on The Athletic about this subject.
In essence, it postulated that moving towards (over) paying the superstars their money is much better than (over) paying the middle class since the superstars generate higher WAR comparatively speaking. It limited it's analysis to the top 4 contracts.
I would venture to say that "over paying" for top talent will expand to say 5 or 6 players over the ensuing seasons...at the further expense of the middle class players.
In thinking about the Sabres in the upcoming years, I think we would all agree that Eichel, Dahlin and Skinner are 3 of those 4 or 5 ( for now)...but the question in my mind is who are the other players they should be willing to over pay now for longer-term contracts? |

On the real I’m getting tired of us rushing players let him develop his game in junior and let him be the mvp for team Canada let him gain some confidence and then let him play out the year here the last seven games |

I try not to use this line of thinking most of the time but I honestly believe the difference in thinking could be a generational thing.
Us old (frank)ers were just thrown into the water and yelled at “Swim!” And we figured it out. Maybe it wasn’t the best way, but we learned fast because the alternative was devastating. We learned from our mistakes, and learned mistakes aren’t fatal.
You younger guys get bring along in everything far more gradually. But I think you’re less able to brush off mistakes. |

Sam is likely the next player to get paid.
Is he really a guy that should though?
Do you pay him say $8m to join that club here?
-Eichel deserves it as he produces and makes his linemates better.
-Skinner has been a top 5 player in terms of Game Tying Goals and Game winning Goals...those are W's or a solid chance at W's.
-Dahlin has a high probability of matching Eichel description above.
Sam does drive possession relatively well...bu TV it s that enough?
Big year for Sam to prove he is worthy of that investment by the team

Let him play a majority of the preseason games. Give him his 9 game tryout, then tell him to go dominate the WHL and win a gold medal. |

that’s not a compelling reason to rush Cozens
We should do what best for his long term development |
