Kind of my thought.
It sounds high, but I don't give too many (frank)s about CAP hit, as long as Dubby can ice a competitive team. If Marner signed a 4yr/15Mil contract, but they won the cup, I wouldn't give a single (frank). - UsernameUnknown
According to Cap Friendly it's $10.893 AAV x 6
Edit
Sounds like the $10.5 per that was on the table since day one plus $393K per for butt hurt money for the missed bonus for daddy |

It’s hard to argue that Marner and his camp wasn’t being unreasonable. I like the player, not a fan of the contract. Is what it is. - ClarksonDavid
Weren't there reports of him wanting a bridge deal with the last year having him make 15? That's why people got so out of hand and why I stayed away from here until he signed. I think Ferris is a (frank)ing knob, but I don't care. I'm really just glad he signed and didn't miss any games. |

Eh. Too much in my opinion. At least he’s signed. - RafiDRW
Not by much.
10.8 for 90+ points is pretty good value.
Then consider, he's signed from 22 to 28. Even if his prime years only see a 10-15 point per year increase, that's some solid value.
Would it have been nice to have Nylander, Matthews and Marner all signed for 1 million per year less each? Absolutely. But it's manageable. |

Yes... finally can talk about the team again instead of this contract stuff.
Also I thought they only had 10.5 in cap space? |

LTIR + contracts that get sent to the Marlies. They have too many listed on CapFriendly and a lot of them are going to disappear after camp. |

Looks like the Leafs helped themselves by "LEAKING" the info about the June deal.
Fans, radio hosts..poop pretty much everyone...all took the hate to the next level. (Even me). The hometown kid had to make a deal or he was (frank)ed in this town.
Brilliant play by Leafs brass, no? - underhill14
I agree. The team used court of public opinion and won.

I think it's still a tad too high, but it's definitely manageable, and that's good enough for me. I said the same thing with Matthews contract, though, and I still love him, too.
Anyone who holds a grudge over Marner for signing this contract is just pathetic. |

It is high but we also bought 2 years of UFA and with it being 6 years his contract won't expire at the same time as AM34 |

If we're talking hard line numbers, Nylander should be at 6, Marner at 9 and Matthews at 10. But the Leafs had to budge on these guys because of how important they are to the team. The Leafs are paying extra for future potential.
All the tough stuff is done with. Now they need Nylander to have a good year, move him for help on the blueline and start making Cup pushes.

I agree that it’s manageable. It’s not atrocious but it’s not a great signing either, by any measure. I don’t put a lot of faith into one season where you put JT onto his line and see a 25 point increase.
Let’s see if he can live up to it or has he handcuffed his team if he falls back down to earth. Is last season the norm or an anomaly. |

Kid has too much talent. People point at JT for the point increase but JT had a career year in goals too. And a good number of them were goals that Marner created for him.
Let's also remember, Marner at 19 and 20 had to carry Bozak and JVR on his back. Getting 60+ points out of that line isn't easy.
Matthews and Marner will deliver. Nylander is the question mark. |

Level of importance on the team:
1. Matthews
2. Tavares
3. Marner
4. Rielly
He got paid in line with AM and JT.
Now we can start the season with a full line up....couple of injuries to wait out, but close to full. |

Part of the increase is his age. Marner isnt even in his prime and Tavares is. Yet both were as valuable and as good as the other. In 3-4 years marners contract will look like a steal compared to Tavares. |
