Or he could've signed the same or better deal in June, July, August, first half of September...but didn't until a few days after the leak. Hmmmmm?!
Either way, don't really give a poop, just glad it's done and it's a decent deal.
Let's play some fu3king hockey boys!!!!!! - underhill14
Agree no biggie but he still had options in June. Go Leafs go |

Young nylander+++ for almost 30yr old doughty
Noooo - Gunslinger
Ya, we don’t need to regress and start picking up guys past their prime. I like Doughty, but I’d aim for a younger guy IF they’re going to trade Willie and let Barrie / Muzzin walk. |

Scabeh guessed the closest AAV with 8x10.895
Peter21 guessed 6x10.6
So you decide a winner idk.. - Arctic_AARDVARK
Like Gunslinger said, I'd give Peter the win. Got the years and supposedly it's just under 11m, so he's only off by a few hundred k. If it was 8 years it'd probably be another mil or two. |

The Nylander trade countdown has officially started... - 13sundin13
He has to play very well before that countdown can officially begin. |

If he gets shuffled down the lineup, who takes over as top pair RHD?
If he sucks, it'll be a big problem. - JohnFergusonJr
Meh, we finished with 106 points and 100 points with Hainsey.
Pretty sure we can figure something out, Dermott will be back...they’ll figure something out. |

Won't find any available.
Ideally, sure, you want a young guy, cheap, Norris winner but it's the availability that's the issue. That's why I bring up Doughty because his availability may increase if his team continues to suck, which it's a good chance they will. |

Nah. Maybe 3 years ago. At almost 30 not the right fit. - Gunslinger
Agree. Turns 30 in December - not what he was, not even close - seriously overpaid scored 29 points. One of the main reasons LA will be in the Lafreniere sweepstakes is the number of horrible contracts they have. A good team might be able to get away with one or even two, but they have like 6 or 7

As he ages, he may begin to suck. Haven’t watched him for awhile myself.
Should I go look at his Caresi? |

I seriously doubt it. There's plenty of examples of Norris winning level D that kept playing at a high level well through their 30s and up to 40s.
Let's also remember, Barrie is 28 himself. If he's going to be demanding 8 AAV, why not get a way better player that is only 1 year older? |

Worst than predicted. I expected 10.5 x 8.
He signs for 10.8 x 6. Rough for the Leafs. |

Pretty sure we already got our "younger guy available" when we got Barrie.
I doubt we go for another big name like Doughty at this point. Just need someone slightly reliable to stay back when Rielly rushes. I know that's probably not Ceci. Maybe Dubas is expecting someone like Lilybust to eventually take that spot when they're ready and Ceci is a stopgap? I dunno. |
