Muzzin at 7?
That's disgusting. - JohnFergusonJr
7’s not bad, but it would need to be short term. He’ll sign somewhere else too - more money and term will be offered.
He’s going to have a good year I predict. |

is Marner a UFA at the end of the deal?
also, how many of his assists were secondary assists? |

It will go up a couple mill
Liljegren .860
Sandin .894
Dermott 1.5
Barrie 7
Muzzin 7 - nbboy
It's possible I overvalue him a bit, but I find it hard to believe Dermott only gets 1.5m. |

Pretty sure we already got our "younger guy available" when we got Barrie.
I doubt we go for another big name like Doughty at this point. Just need someone slightly reliable to stay back when Rielly rushes. I know that's probably not Ceci. Maybe Dubas is expecting someone like Lilybust to eventually take that spot when they're ready and Ceci is a stopgap? I dunno. - Thecakeisalie
Not really. He's not that much younger and nowhere near as good.
And I'm not talking about making that deal right now. I'm talking about making it for next year.
If the Leafs are going to have big money tied up long term on the blueline, I'd rather it be with a legit player like Doughty than Barrie, even if it means giving something up to get it. |

This is the biggest worry I have with Muzzin. He's what, 30 now? I don't know how well his game will hold up in his late 30's, so I'd be pretty concerned if we signed him for more than 4 or 5 years, but he's probably gonna want as much term as possible on his next deal, so he'd probably want more per year if he signs a shorter term. |

so marner is UFA @ the end
& of marner's 64 assists, 52 were primary, so that's good |

Huh, only a year apart. Yeah, i thought Barrie was several years younger. |

Yeah, but the odds of him doing it again are very slim. Only like 3 guys in the last 20 something years have had a primary assist rate that high in multiple seasons. |

That's why I was saying, if the Leafs are going to move Nylander to open cap space to spend on the blueline, I'd rather they move him in a deal to get a legit guy instead of just spending that money on Barrie and/or Muzzin. |

15.1 million to sign 5 defensemen next season.
That's gonna be rough. - JohnFergusonJr
You have to presume Dermott, Sandin and Liljegren are gonna be 3 of those 5. So about 10 mil to sign 2 dmen.
Not exactly Rubik Cube level is it? |

maybe in 20 years we can do another rebuild, not win, and then overpay every greedy player that overperformed |

I get why they had to do it, but man, it's gonna be rough to try to win after this season again for a couple years. |

To sign just anybody, that's easy. To fill the blueline with high quality defense, that's not so easy. |

Meh, more then I thought but all my guesses have been low. Basically it looks like he got 6 x 10 plus his unpaid rookie bonuses. |

We heard about how great his analytics were and then he came here and I was omygerd he’s slow. He’s pretty good with the puck for the most part but I’d be worried about him long term. Weird all those LA guys with the great analytics a few years back haven’t turned into Gretzkys. |
