A potential lengthy holdout and injury to two players in the top 9. Impressive
- PLindbergh31

You were quiet on the Provy deal because it was solid.
Predictable.

Great! Give me a ready-made top-6 winger like Konecny all day! It'd do loads to help keep us out of the basement and, as far as I'm concerned, that's what matters.

Personally I think the deal would be good for both teams and I am a fan of TK, although I wish he had more focus.

Agree to give him a Lucic type deal and send over the pick.

I don't understand the desire to move TK.

I get it, he isn't a 200 foot defense first, defense always player but why the desire to move on from a young player with QTY 2 24 goal seasons?

I probably wouldn't have any issue paying him that; just gonna have to find the cap space.

Something the knee-jerks overlook... there have already been 10-13 game stretches in his first two years where Patrick was very productive. Hints at what he can, and probably will, do as he matures at the NHL level. There were all the same hints with Couturier.
- bmeltzer

are there more hints to suggest he will not?

to early to predict either way. For as many payers as 14 who turn it around , there are many who do not.

Well there is no desire to move TK....but when you can not sign a player because their demands are too high, what else can you do?

If an offer comes around that is good, you take it. Also keep in mind that the top 9 is pretty packed and in the next 2-3 years prospects will be knocking on the door for playing time. Sports is a constant game of recycling of players.

People are acting like he took a hometown discount. If they are paying 6.5 for a 25 point guy and turnover machine like he was last year it will be a bad contract if he improves on his first two seasons it will be in line with what he’s worth. Jury is out.

depending on what he wants, might not be as much interest as one may think

LOL no one is acting like he took a hometown discount. They just think it’s a good deal.

The PA needs to find a way to get that money to the players.

If an owner is not willing to cooperate, sell the team buddy.

I have no pity that their margins not as big as they want and I am tired of constant deference to the money! the labor deserves theirs.

The PA needs to stand firm, there is no league without them and I think the owners will blink first.

EDIT: yes this will cause the big markets to have a decided advantage; they do anyway.

- DrMidnite

Is there a league without the owners? LOL All the labor deserves is their fair share. Nothing more.

Based on the fact he’s making 1.75 more than Werenski who’s a better player?

Also not many teams have the cap space to fit 5-6m unless they are unloading salary as well. Two 24 goal seasons is good for a young player, but you also have to factor in he has played a lot of TOP line minutes, which production should be expected. Besides Giroux, TK is the best sniper the team has so it would hurt to lose him, but overpaying for hope is not good business.

Then logic kicks in and a person realizes that Werenski's deal is 3 years compared to 6...yes that makes the salary increase due to a longer term.

When Fletcher said Patrick has been injured for a while and they’ve known about it, what crack media member asked how he sustained the injury? Journalism 101

Werenskis next deal is in 3 years, and he’ll probably be making close to 10. Starting point is 7.

And??? For the next 3 years the Jackets have the better player at leas money.. What if Provorov has more seasons like last year? Then what does term mean? It’s a bad contract. That’s what it means

Exactly. I love when people want to compare contracts and have no clue of what their talking about. In two years, Werenski will have both arbitration and future UFA leverage. The negotiation point will start at 7M. He's a point producing puck moving defenseman.

I think Columbus got a decent deal too in the short term, but he’s gonna sign a monster in a few years.

I have my concerns about Provorov as well because the fans got to see a much lower floor than expected, but like you said earlier "the jury is still out". So let's not put a final verdict in yet until he shows if he has recovered from his mental lapses from last year.

Also let's not pretend Werenski doesn't have his own flaws either. Comparing players using basic stat lines is just silly because it doesn't reflect the real impact a player has on their team.

Start rattling off the dmen who were RFAs/UFAs that got a bigger contract that Provorov just got coming off a 25 point season in which they were in the bottom of the NHL in +\- Can’t wait to see how many players you come up with
