Okay, so what is the full amount of Marner’s deal worth and what’s his cap hit? After we figure that out, who is a comparison to Konency and what are they signed for moving forward?
- SuperSchennBros

I think Toronto has shot themselves with the recent contracts they handed out.

They will probably trade Nylander, when their fake LTIR guys can not be used to hack the cap.

As a fan, I don't care about salary, I care about cap hits. Obviously it's the opposite for the player. From that perspective, it won't be almost the same.

Unless he gets PP1 time, I think Provorov will be on a low side or below with the point totals you give. I agree on the usage.

As far as cap hits are concerned, you’re right. Not the same. Still, I’d rather have the Flyers side if in fact their output is close.

5 mil cap hit is great and all, but having 5 for 3 years, and then 8-9 the next? I’d rather have Provy’s cap hit over a 6 year stretch

Yep, that lack of PP1 time will stifle his numbers a little. Not sure if he’ll get it any time soon. Perhaps when Ghost leaves. I really like Ghost, but I have a feeling this is his last contract in Philly. He’ll want more than the Flyers are willing to pay him, so I think he gets shipped before then. Even after Ghost’s inevitable departure, Provy could face tough competition for the gig.

There’s not one contract that can’t be moved on that team. They’ll be fine

Cool story. 👍

LOL. I know. It’s not like they got any new players, a new GM, and a new coaching staff. No reason at all to be even a little optimistic.

Spurgeon got 7 years and 53 Million at age 30. It makes me feel a little better about Hayes getting his deal at 27.

When Fletcher said Patrick has been injured for a while and they’ve known about it, what crack media member asked how he sustained the injury? Journalism 101

Never know what's going to happen but I don't see Provorov as a main PP defenseman. If Gostisbehere is moved, I see Sanheim as the heir apparent to that role but I could be wrong.

Provorov and Werenski are similar, yet different. Both play well overall at 5 on 5 but Provorov is better suited to the PK while Werenski is on the PP side of things. It all depends on what you need. I think Provorov provides a nice blend with the Flyers having Gostisbehere and Sanheim.

I agree that Travis Sanheim would be a better option on PP1 should Ghost be lost to injury, trade or scratch but I’m gonna throw out a Scenario where I believe you, as well as others are selling Provorov short on the PP.

Late in Kimmo Timonen’s career, Timonen was a 3 to 7 goal guy but still a very effective quarterback. When we traded and signed Streit, was Mark Streit a better option over Kimmo? Streit had a better shot, wasn’t very good defensively and probably being wasted on the second unit. I think what kept Timonen on the first unit was a mix of chemistry between the five man unit and smarts. Timonen was more of a playmaker. He knew when to wrist the puck towards the net, normally looking for tape that would result in deflections. Timonen was great for finding open lanes and getting pucks through. Something I would argue Timonen is better than Ghost at.

My point. I’m not saying Provorov will ever be as good as Ghost or Sanheim on the PP but I think he’s more than capable if he were to get comfortable there. To this day, I prefer Timonen’s chemistry with G over Ghost’s.

On this team, if you play on the second unit, you don’t stand a chance of producing much.

Something the knee-jerks overlook... there have already been 10-13 game stretches in his first two years where Patrick was very productive. Hints at what he can, and probably will, do as he matures at the NHL level. There were all the same hints with Couturier.
- bmeltzer

But the difference with Couturier is the fact that no Giroux can be moved to LW for Patrick. Was a key element in improvment of Couturier

Micah McCurdy just posted an isolated impact study of Prov the other day and his effect on the PP play is shockingly poor.

You can find it on his twitter page if you're interested. Won't directly post the chart here since I don't want to trigger the troglodytes.

Stemming from last season. In March he had to be cleared for the Isles game. Since flyers is dead silent about this, I fear he still have symptoms.
