If that's true, and Babs has full decision-making on the lineup, I'm not so sure. He let him sit all year in the press box. Would have gotten more out of a year in the minors.

Holl did everything he could do in the AHL and last year he spent the year as the spare guy to practice in the big leagues every day. He should get an honest shot this year alternating with Liljegren to keep them both fresh.

the focus of the club can shift from contract negotiations to winning playoff rounds.

- mikeinbuffalo

oh they’ve decided to focus on winning playoff rounds now? 🤦‍♂️

That’s great news!😁

what a (frank)ing joke 🤦‍♂️

edit: nice alliteration 👍

What's funny now is the big news today is how Leafs are in big trouble next summer! Cap hell!

Where have I heard this before? LOL. Rinse, repeat.

Wasn't Mitch getting offersheets, Nylander traded, and Marleau and Zaitsev could not be moved?

Same damn argument every year.

- RogerRoeper

it’s never too late to trade greedy willi👍

Just about exactly as I predicted.
I siad if not a bridge for 9 per or so, he would like sign at 5 for 10 or 10.5....6 for 11....7 for 12 or 12.5.

The response I got was ... "you are trolling"...He is a winger....he won't get that kinda cash....he will sign for 5 x 8.5 or 6 x 9 or some such talk.

It was apparent all along he wanted CLOSE to Matthews money, I don't think ANYBODY thought he would match it, but this contract comes in right about where we all should have known it would.

Leafs are set up front now, other than adding a "Grit" piece or two for the playoff run....as reg season hockey and playoffs are two different beasts, and this team needs another couple pieces to go for i all. Jury out on the defense until we see them a bit. Some issues back there I think, but also young guys coming up that may or may not be ready....and that can make a huge difference. Decent 800k, 1 million type players will be crucial if this team goes far.

Anyway, the contract is done...goood or bad matters not now. They have to work around the 40 million and do the best they can with the other 15-17 spots. Still not sold this is a CUP winning roster, but it sure as heck will be a regular season and high scoring roster for the next 5-6 years....

Somebody has to kill penalties and it won't be Schmaltz. Holl fits the type of hard working professional Babcock loves.

More than zero chance, he's fighting with the rookies for a spot and could easily be the #7 guy like he was last year.

- JohnFergusonJr

Right which is why he played so much last year

I don't think sandin or liligren make the team to start this year. Babs wants veterans, he wants the young guys to season in the minors.

If shmaltz has even an average camp I think he makes it base on age and past history with new assistant coach who is responsible for dmen.

Liligren plays regularly or goes back to the Marlies. Playing his in rotation makes no sense.

I think that dermots spot as 3lhd is between kivihalme or marincrap and the other probably stays as 7th d until dermott is ready.

Ageed.

Hopefully guys in camp blow him away and they have no choice but to finally cut the cord.

I find it hard to believe he wasn't outplayed last year by someone... anyone!

Babs has some kind of hard on for him... only explanation...

I wish I was in St. John's and not Labrador City for work... I'd love to be checking the team out... No Niagara Falls this year eh? lol

I don't think he did either, nor did ozighanov but they both played significant time.

Nope, no falls this year really enjoyed it the last 2 years. Would definitely been down there sometime some way again this year had they been. Oh well, looks like NFLD is enjoying it as well which is good to see.

Yeah, the pics have been pretty cool... Sounds like the city is embracing the opportunity... The locals tell me Matthews is far and away the most popular player amongst the fans... awesome!

Except for whatever reason that none of us are aware of, Babcock does not love Holl. He had him on the roster all year last year, and only brought him in when there was literally no other choice due to injury. Marincin came up, and Holl was back in the press box. He gets waived this year.
