Overall I am damn happy with what Fletcher has done...

1. Proven winning coaching staff
2. Didnt trade prospects
3. Addressed holes he felt the team had.
4. Solid contracts as Im not in the camp that Hayes was a huge overpay.

Things I dont like
1. While i understand why they did it I feel like Braun is unnecessary.

For multiple reasons I feel this team should be substantially better , on paper, then how they ended last year.

- opeth_pa

Well trading picks, kinda is trading prospects.

Trading for Braun is unnecessary. We could potentially trade a young Robert Hagg in favor of an old Justin Braun who will likely only be here two seasons and wasn’t great himself last season.

By the end of the year I think this trade will be looked at very differently. I think Braun is exactly what we need for the entire d corps in general and wouldnt be surprised if he's re-upped for 2 years maybe at the end of the year. I think his value, specifically for the flyers, is being under appreciated.

I'm not losing any sleep over those picks, not sure why people are so hung up about it.

BTW, I don’t think I said it yet...I absolutely loved that Provy said that the players would take the extra time to get TK up to speed on what he missed. Time to back that up with action now. “Coach” Provy tutoring sessions start ASAP. Hopefully, TK is a nerd and catches on fast.

Have to assume it must have been signing bonus vs. salary structure ...even with that you gotta wonder how it did not get pinned down more quickly.

With Comcast's deep pockets, I have a hard time believing up front money was the hold up.

If there's one thing we should enjoy about Fletcher is he has stuck to his word from the beginning. We all were worried based on Homer and Scott's comments any new GM would have his hands tied and make some knee jerk moves. Fletcher signed our big RFAs, had a great first draft, addressed the holes through FA and now is giving young guys an opportunity to make the big club. I will proudly say I'm loving this hire so far
- arichardson22

Not sure how Holmgren's and Scott's words would lead someone to believe that the new GM would have his hands tied. I saw it as the opposite. The GM was given a mandate to make immediate improvements.

I would have no problem if Braun is effective and he is re-signed at a lesser number in a reduced role moving forward. All depends on cost. I'd much rather see the younger home grown defenseman elevate their play and take on bigger roles.

well of course, it will all depend if they are ready, which will depend on how they perform this season in each of their respective levels.

I think Fletcher has done a tremendous job of taking the Flyers from a lower tier playoff bubble team to an upper tier playoff bubble team.

Yes, it was Fletcher's fault for not acquiring multiple future HHOFers this offseason.

Will they get better and ready sooner if they were given more responsibility sooner?

A little more then expected for TK but also not over the moon. As BigEE pointed out, these small over pays are adding up. That said, this team is much better on paper then last year and I expect a playoff team.

why two seasons? he's only signed for this year. if it was longer i could maybe understand, but after this season his cap hit disappears and so does gudas's salary retention. unless they re-sign braun, but i'm not counting on that.

It's possible of course, it's also possible that some of these kids won't be ready next year to take the leap. Who do we have in the system that are like as far along in their evolution as say, a Sanheim or Myers, currently in the system? I don't think York will be ready, I don't think Friedman is an NHL defenseman (could be wrong), I don't think Zamula will be ready next year, and none of the other notable defensemen in the system, Millman, Wylie, Wilcox, etc., do I think will be ready. Morin and Hagg will also be in the conversation next year (at least I expect them to be), so if they appear to be able to bring more to the table than Braun then I'm all for them being on the team.
