Thats cool. I mean there were 2 leafs and 7 habs on that team including Dryden. Dont think Dryden was any good during that series. Henderson's goal was pretty amazing.

I am a habs fans, but love hockey and actaully really dont mind the leafs. My question can seem loaded but i just wanted to know what leafs fans take on their tradtion is. The tradition that Marner speaks of.

- munky123

It's a weak troll attempt... I expected more.

Why limit 'tradition' to the last 50-60 years when the Leafs have been around for over 100 years.

Next time, try harder when trolling.

The tradition is loving hockey, and suffering. It's like the Red Sox or Cubs when they hadn't won for 80 years, it's love and pain. What else do you need?

and yes 100% the cap will be going up when Seattle joins (more than normal)
- Lucas.Neilson

I believe a new NBC deal will be coming up as well. I'm not concerned about the Leafs cap at all - for all the reasons you mention. Guys like Spezza and Moore and also Kappy and Johnsson.

I believe Nylander will be traded at the end of the season to allocate money to the back end. He will score 75 points and fetch us a good return of some kind.

Perfect! Thanks for not calling me a troll, im really not trying ha. Honestly, I think the leafs fan base is one of the best for exactly what you say. Makes total sense. I am not on that side of the fence and all the hardships that have come with being a leafs fan. Thanks for that insight!

Im hoping for some great things from our 2 teams and most certainly the east is going to be so tight. Everygame is going to mean sooo much more. 2 wins separated the habs and leafs... 2. incredible how this regular season is going to be crazy!

I dont have to try, to troll the leafs. sorry b. that said, you are right. 100 years is filled with tradition. Thats said id argue that the leafs outside of canada dont have an impactful tradition that would make fans of their team internationally compared to habs, rangers bruins etc. But that comes down to opinion, i just tossed one out there, that ok?

I just wanted to understand it. Ive got lots of leaf pals, and some people see it differently. Putting a question out there to the world, isnt a bad thing. Perhaps you have showed another tradition of leafs fans; sensitive? defensive? protective? Bruised egos?

have a good one.

Put it in another context, would you rather Mitchy say; I'm happy to be back for the fans and also, because the Leafs gave me the most money?

I think Marner was just trying to be nice and put a stop to the pounding he took in the media.

Haha perhaps wishful thinking. I dont see the habs falling that far behind. If it werent for a poopty pp last year, i dare say they would have finished higher then the leafs in the standings. habs were the better 5v5 team, god awful pp.

All that said, i would love to see a habs leafs playoff and see the ratings. The interwebs would melt and our 2 fine cities would be on the go 24hr party mode.... well maybe montreal, i know of the old " its 10 pm , time to shut er' down" bar scene in toronto.

A Leafs v. Habs playoff series would be must-see for any hockey fan. There's a chance this year anyway.

I wouldn't limit any fanbases perception of tradition to any time frame. Its all personal and unique to the team they root for. Even between different fans, people like the team for all sorts of different reasons. For example; the habs are largely loved by europeans/russia etc ( older ones) for the dynasties in the 70s80s etc, same as the oilers. Some would argue that the habs would have a tradition of "excellence and class" they haven't been winners in 26 years, but bar none they are the classiest organisation in the league. Im not saying this is the global perception, but one of many that ive heard. I just wanted to hear what people from the leaf fan base was.

I wouldn't want to put Marner down, and you are right, what do you say? It got me thinking is all. Also, not all fanbases hate eachother. I love the habs, love everything about them, but i love the flames, i love the pens, really like some of the leafs players, love hockey in general. There are fans that can have a mature and respectful convo and still broach subjects that can seem trollish in nature, but in reality its just about the experience.
