Would be nice if there was a luxury tax system that let teams go over 5-10% though. - JohnFergusonJr
I agree with Gord Miller on his issue with the cap. Chicago, Tampa, Leafs, etc. do a good job in managing their draft/prospects. Yet get punished for it because they can't afford to keep them all. I would be in agreement for something like a franchise tag, or the cap for a single player is 50% less if they are your own player/signed to a max deal. Get creative.
The downside to that, I can see is the have not teams can't utilize it. |

I'm not gonna diminish how good it is for the Leafs to have 3 elite stars on the team for years to come. It's great news for them. Leafs are a very good team and you guys should be thrilled Marner finally signed.
But when you think that... let's say the (frank)ing bruins for example, are paying their 3 elite forwards around 20M and the Leafs are paying them over 30M......
Let's just say you guys aren't getting a bargain anywhere and it's bound to hurt at some point to fill other needs.
I hope they fail miserably.
With love of course. - Scabeh
yeah i would rather have an/another elite/generational defenseman or maybe a goalie

Luxury tax works because there are some teams that want to spend more money (and usually just make a mistake when they can) and there are some teams that need more revenue sharing. |

Sorry but it's the truth. Leafs did their fair share of it too.
Teams basically do it right now anyway with LTIR, both rich and poor.
Players are annoyed by escrow so maybe the way to bridge that gap is to let some teams spend more money on players. |

Eh, it's always negative b.s with the Leafs.
First it's Dubas can never sign the "Big 3", not only does he, but he adds Tavares, and people still say it can't work.
Next summer is doom! Right, guys? |

What are the odds of a 5 million dollar playing like a 10 million dollar player? (1:2 ratio)
What are the odds of a 1 million dollar player playing like a 3 million dollar player? (1:3 ratio)
Think about that for a second. Now you can see why I’m overly excited the Leafs have themselves positioned for success for years to come.
What are you trying to do here Lucas? Please clarify |

That's the issue with the cap now. If you draft well you are punished. Leafs got Nylander, Marner, Matthews in the 1st round 3 years in a row and they got nailed. Other teams that did not do nearly as well (Arizona bombed horribly in 2015), won't face cap issues.

Under.
Division got stronger with Montreal, Florida and Buffalo all improving in some way. Tampa Bay and Boston are still just as strong. The only easy games are Ottawa and Detroit. |

Luxury tax, or a cap discount for in house drafted players (~25%), or a single player franchise tag with 100% cap discount.
Just spitballing. |

So many big-name unsigned RFAs still, where's the 24/7 coverage about how these teams are (frank)ed? Is that just a Leaf thing? |

I think the problem with a franchise tag, at least the way the NFL uses it, is that players get stuck with the tag and can't go anywhere.
It also doesn't have a penalty attached to it. If teams are spending extra money, that's an advantage so there should be some kind of cost for it. |
