What are you trying to do here Lucas? Please clarify

What are the odds of a 5 million dollar playing like a 10 million dollar player? (1:2 ratio)

What are the odds of a 1 million dollar player playing like a 3 million dollar player? (1:3 ratio)

Think about that for a second. Now you can see why I’m overly excited the Leafs have themselves positioned for success for years to come.

Leafs will have some 700k-1million dollar players like Spezza who will be performing better than 700k player. Or someone they have in the lineup like Trevor Moore (he has 2 years left of 775k) Take a look at this year, remove a few high paid players (some we want, some we don't) and add in our top prospects + a quality UFA signing or two (cheaper) and those ~million dollar players will be performing/producing at what could be a 3+ million dollar player.

Leafs will have to be creative, but I think they will make the best of the situation due to who's on the team, where they are playing and who's coaching/running the show.

I think the problem with a franchise tag, at least the way the NFL uses it, is that players get stuck with the tag and can't go anywhere.

It also doesn't have a penalty attached to it. If teams are spending extra money, that's an advantage so there should be some kind of cost for it.

- JohnFergusonJr

Perhaps teams can't franchise tag players who reach UFA status. I don't know. I'm a spectator.

Yeah member when the Leafs were a cap team with Kessel, Phaneuf, Loophole, et cetera? They only got out of that with satanic rituals and tons of money. There's some fugly ass contracts out there.

Christ, now the Leafs are paying Horton AND Clarkson in order to not have Clarkson on the cap. Clarkson is the golden albatross.

Luxury tax, or a cap discount for in house drafted players (~25%), or a single player franchise tag with 100% cap discount.

Just spitballing.

- BetterCallSaul

Right, I can only spitball. I'd just like to see something done not to punish good management teams.

This is the best roaster and chance we have at a cup since 2004 when we traded away the farm for vets (Nolan, Leetch, etc.)

not a problem. i think benning will be using rousel's ltir space.

i am not sure if benning is aware of the fact the once rousel is healthy, he'll need rousel's ltir cap space back for rousel.

Bettman was with the NBA in the 80's when they moved to a soft cap.

I like a Larry Bird type rule where teams can exceed the Cap by re-signing their own players.
