for sure. i just agree that the landscape is going to change a lot in the next couple years and the norm by then wont be the norm now. inflation of contracts and players being more strategic on term.
boeser sign a deal that is essentially 4 year $25+ million because of the qualifying offer, and gets to renegotiate early in his prime. very different than the 10-13 year deals of previous cba or going with multiple 1 year contracts through rfa years - johnnykarate
If he plays bad can you not take him to arbitration? |

I agree, it is stupid to push the cap when you dont have to. Its Toronto....
But you will have players and agents pointing at these deals going "Me Too!" - carsonagenic
Everyone wants to get paid. As they should take their fair share. No reason to leave money on the table for owners to collect. They already get their 50/50 share. |

Everyone keeps saying this is a bad deal for JB because it puts him in tough in three years when it’s time to re-sign him. Bunch of bullpoop. In 3 years time we will know for sure if he is a 10 million per guy or a 6 - 7 million guy. Plenty of guys will be off the books also. 3 to 5 year contract at this price is a great deal for both. They did the almost the same with deal with Gudbransen and we found out quickly his worth. It made him movable. I don’t see Boeser regressing I only see him getting better but the same idea. I think it puts more pressure on Boeser than it does management at this point. - thundachunk
I've seen very little of that, most of the Benning critics I've seen have been impressed with the deal. |

So you are saying that Boeser's agent did a little bit better than the 6 years 42 million dollar deal at the draft.
7.21% of the cap for Boeser's deal. Marners was 10.12 I believe. |

My Buddy's Daughter took her 3 kids to camp yesterday, so he asks his Daughter to get him an autograph, you guessed it Eriksson. I laughed my guts out when he showed it to me 2 hrs ago, I'm still chuckling. - A_SteamingLombardi

i dont know all the cba rules but i think they have to offer his qualifying offer or let him go to free agency.
my guess is: if boeser is worth more than the qualifying offer, he rejects and goes to arbitration; if he is worth less than it the team has to decide to walk away or sign him to the 1-year deal |

imo this works out very well for boeser. hes got a bit of security and is going to get paid big money when more money is available, both from extra cap space and inflated player contracts |

You can but my understanding is teams can only get a 1 year 15% decrease at most going the arbitration route. And they can only take a player to arbitration once in their career.
Otherwise I think the starting point is 7.5 which is his base in year 3. There would be no min increase as it is over 1M.
Either way the deal is great for Canucks, Brock will easily be worth the 7.5 then. |

I’m a Benning critic. This is an excellent deal.
Edit: I think the people that don’t like this deal spend too much time listening and reading IMac. |

Me too, his best offseason to date, especially when you add in unloading Guddy for Pearson. |

I think a good deal for both parties. Good cap for 3 years. Then if all is well we sign him for the rest of his prime

A giant blog just posted, with my thoughts on Boeser's new contract and how the Canucks are now sitting pretty, cap-wise. Plus, quick recaps of Monday's games and the lineups for Tuesday's preseason home opener against the Oilers:
