I don't know why they have to play 8 games either. Start the season earlier, end it sooner or give them more days off in the schedule.

They have to play a few - otherwise the first few regular season games will be awful like this!

This year, more than the last few, the preseason is more important since there are about 6 spots up for grabs.

It was a terrible game, and tonight's probably will be, too. I'd like to think by the time they play Montreal next week, after cuts and some practice, it should be a bit better.

It's possibly also good for the young guys to remember what they're playing for . . . Granted, the argument could easily be made that internal scrimmages could probably provide a similar vetting process.

Next weeks rosters will be more interesting when the get down closer to the actual team.
