I think so too. He's slowly been groomed to be a 4C which was his max potential to begin with. It's bittersweet that he's as good as he is but also as good as he's realistically ever going to be.

I'd let him have the preseason to get his legs under him and going before we pass judgement. He's 36, so it'll take longer.

Good guy though - great career. Gauthier with the advantage.

I'm not even basing this off this game. I'm just looking at him as a player the past 5 years.

Offensively, he's above average but not as good as our top offensive players. So his usefulness on the PP is marginal at best.

And defensively, he's never been good and recently, he's been declining.

He can win face-offs and he has "experience" but otherwise, he's just not that impressive anymore.

Sens own the Leafs - 4 wins in last 5 games.
When they play the Sens in reg season - rest the top guys, don't try very hard to save energy, don't get hurt, give them the 2 points and move on to crush the next team.

1st preseason game and leafs iced maybe 1/4 of the team.

Not to mention Tavares and marner didn’t show up to training camp till Sunday.
