Only a preseason game, but losing with Marner, Tavares and your top 2 defensemen in the lineup to arguably the worst team in the league????

Lord the Leafs Defense may actually be worst than I thought....

- RedRevenge

That's why they should blow it up, trade Matthews to the Hawks for a conditional pick and demote Marner to the Marlies. It's the only way. Maybe keep Tavares for the sake of publicity, they can sell some jerseys that way, I dunno.

........i have a message for you which you may have missed.... marner signed, so your whole prediction was wrong. No one signed offer sheets, we didn't have to blow up the team. So I can only conclude you are an idiot. As for the message

Wut?

No way the hawks take matthews without 50% retained. Have you seen the crap on their roster?

Scouting Report from last night:

The Goat played well... but still can’t score.

Marincin looked like he was handling a Grenade at times.

Other then the horrid giveaway, Mitch was 11 million worth of Magic.

Korshkov looked like a tank out there and seems to have a nice ‘edge’ to his game...

Bonus:
Freddy with the ridiculous save on the first shot/breakaway of the game by Duclair.

Every time preseason starts I immediately reminisce back to the first season we signed Eddy the Eagle. I remember most of us were hesitant because of his age, but hopefully optimistic.

The first time we had a chance to watch him was the preseason. It might have been the worst preseason performance of all time by an NHL star. Eddy looked totally disinterested. Everything was going in. Could have been playing half in the bag for all we know. Lots of people were worried, it was that bad. Then the real season started and Eddy flipped the ‘caring’ switch and had a tremendous season.

I learned an important lesson that season my friends. For established NHL’s the preseason means nothing. They were jiz-zing all over Duclair last night, but that is meaningless. He was obviously givin’ her because of his career situation. Same with the goat.

In these games the only thing that concerns you is injuries to star players getting ran at. For example, I saw some kid on Ottawa running around last night, took a healthy run or 2 at Marner and a few others. Hate that. Makes me cringe...

Agreed on the Goat. No finish to his game, but he was probably the most effective player in the game.

As much as it hurts me to say, I'd disagree on Marincin. I thought he was good yesterday. He was very effective on the PK, and he made some smart plays. In the battle for the 5/6/7 D-spots, Marincin, Holl, Schmaltz and Gravel all played last night, and I thought they performed in that order. Tonight it will be interesting to see the other D-guys in the mix (Sandin, Lilljegren, Harpur and Kivihalme).

I guess maybe I thought we'd see more out of Korshkov, but overall I wasn't super impressed. It's the first game for all of them, so the impression is what it is - maybe he was lacking chemistry or just wasn't "there" yet, but I didn't think he was competing all that hard.

Funny, I have a similar - but more predictive memory. I remember going to see the final preseason game in 2000. My (now wife) and I had just finished moving into our condo in downtown, met up with our friends, and drove out to Copps to see the game. I was pretty excited because our "goalie of the future" Mikael Tellqvist was going to be in net.

After we were crushed 6-3, in an interview after the game, Tellqvist said, "They play differently over here. They one-time the puck quite a bit."

That's when I knew he wasn't the goalie of the future afterall.

What’s wrong with Buff, battling addiction or mental issues?

Or maybe he says (frank) it, and has decide to take his millions and live on the lake eating bon bons and crushing pints.

Hopefully it’s nothing serious. Maybe he didn’t work out this summer and doesn’t want to get in shape for the season.

Either way wpg seems to be taking a step back this year.

Tru dat.

I don't know why they have to play 8 games either. Start the season earlier, end it sooner or give them more days off in the schedule.

Preseason games sell, so they sell 8 of them.
