Don't they also open up the season in Berlin playing Philly?

The Rockford Files was a well liked old TV show and the 2019 -20 Rockford files per Chicago Blackhawks will certainly bear watchfuil eyes with many exciting prospects beginning to fill their roster

The Blackhawk site reported two waves of players reassigned to Rockford today.

The latest bunch: Versteeg, T Sikura, Kyrs,
Earlier today this bunch: Noel, SODERLUND. McLaughlin, Ryczek

The emboldened player's name i am disappointed to not have a longer look in camp.

It's a expression or do we no longer use terms or perjoratives?

Murphy is no where near what Stan sold us on. Murphy is at best suited as a 3rd pairing D.

Seabrook and maatta looked comfortable playing together , but surely IMO Seabrook has declined , can he truly be your 2nd defensive pairing and handle big minutes while playing 82 games and playoffs and still be effective?

Now maybe Murphy if paired with DE HAAN it's possible that he can excel and I'm willing to admit if I'm wrong ,

I'm just coming at this with a sour taste in my mouth from watching this team for the past couple of years decline and look lost and over manned at many times .

- Taylorst1

We just disagree. After his return from back surgery last year, Murphy, to my eye, was a plus defender.
For this particular year, given the ages of a couple of the guys, it would be awesome if even-strength time among the three pairs was split evenly. I don't think it's an excellent harbinger for the 'Hawks if Keith is doing so many minutes per game. And I think bringing in DeHaan and Maatta gives them a shot at rolling three defensive pairs.
I don't know how the pairs will shake out, but I think the six will be:
Keith
Seabrook
Gustafson
Murphy
DeHaan
Maatta
I definitely see more blocked shots this year.
Good chance it will be more physical in front of the net too.
I just think it's a playoff caliber defense.

(Backchecking is always, always, always what makes contenders out of qualifiers, playoffs-wise...)

The Hawks can keep Dach on the NHL roster as long as they want (until he plays his 10th game). He can work with the Hawks strength and conditioning coaches (on ice and off), and practice with the team. I would be ok with him sticking around until he was 100% healthy, then play 9 games, then make a decision on his future. There is no urgency to decide. The Hawks bottom 6 is full of players who have played some center and could fill in the role as 3C for the interim, some better than others. (Shaw, Smith, Carpenter, Sikura, Kampf, Highmore, Caggiula)

That actually makes some sense to me. No sense rushing him back to Canada.

I heard Soderlund is an extremely fast skater. I also would have liked to see him stick around a little while longer.

Here’s a line suggestion from Laz in The Athletic. Discuss.

With all that in mind, here’s a proposal, one that Colliton probably hasn’t been weighing much, given the look of the lineup through the first week of camp and preseason.

How about reuniting Saad, Shaw and Kane, which — in a small sample size — was as dominant a line as the Blackhawks have had in recent memory? Those three almost won the 2014 Western Conference final on their own, carrying the Blackhawks to a Game 7 after falling behind 3-1 in the series. In the last three-plus games of that series, Kane had two goals and eight assists; Saad had three goals and four assists; and Shaw had four assists while doing the dirty work.

In all, they’ve played just under 61 minutes of even-strength playoff time together, outscoring their opponents 5-2 and posting a 55.45 percent Corsi and a 59.95 percent expected goals-for, per Natural Stat Trick. In regular-season play, they outscored foes by a ridiculous 14-3 margin, with a 56.94 percent Corsi and 60.07 percent xGF. For comparison’s sake, the much-ballyhooed line of Panarin, Artem Anisimov and Kane had a 53.35 percent Corsi and 48.76 percent xGF (in a much larger sample size, of course).

IMO you are selling him short. Murphy has been a #3 guy for more than one NHL team and he is far from a problem in that role. He is becoming one of the most under appreciated players for the Hawks.

Consider these facts.

He got deployed defensively (He and Dahlstrom as a pair used against the other teams top guys and in the Dzone). He still maintained decent puck possession numbers despite that slant and having a non-NHL partner for much of his time. All that considered, the actual goals against while he was on the ice was solid and better than nearly every other dman on the team.

He is physical throwing and taking lots of hits. Pretty much the most consistently physical dman we had last year.

While the numbers show he was solid in his own end, he didn't really get any PP time to put up points there, but 5v5 only Gus was scoring goals at a better rate and really was like our #3 in terms of regulars putting up offense behind Keith and Gus.

I don't get why people need to rehash an old trade. Murphy is a #3 and while he is less of a defensive specialist, he is 6 years younger and his contract is cheaper. If we had more guys like him, this team wouldn't have sucked as bad last year.

I thought I remember them trying that line the year after some, but they didn't do quite as well as in the 2014 playoffs. Doesn't meant that they couldn't try it again though.

IMO, having Dach sitting around and not playing hockey for along period of time, if nealthy obs, would be the worse thing for his development.

Send him back to the prairies. Let him play the top dog role and get used to the pressure. Give him specifics to work on to improve. There are still things he can gain by playing in juniors. I just don't think he is ready for the NHL yet.

He was getting knocked around a bit at the prospect tourney. He would be well served from another year of physical maturity.

They did try it to start the next season with middling success. IIRC, they were maybe together for ~10 games before Q became impatient and got the blender going.

In regular season play, they out scored their opponents 14-3. So yeh, middling success.

I don't disagree with you. The only thing I'm saying is murphy isn't and shouldn't have been compared to hammer.
Sure murphy was a upgrade and I do agree with you .

I do agree that the hawks should equally balance out playing time.
