Seems like not many people are putting much stock in Rust. I still think there’s a decent chance he turns into a 25+ goal guy this year on the top line. He paced 20 last season. Curious on how others feel now that Petts is locked up

He put 18G last year. I don’t think 25 is super far fetched.

He was a ghost to start the year, then that Chicago game where he lit it up. He was on fire for a 2 months then back to normal Rust production.

Yeah....mid to high teens guy. Topping out at 40pts at best. I still think he's most likely to be traded at some point.

Rust is streaky. He’ll be just shy of 20 and just shy of 45 if he finishes the season here with stretches of looking like a first line winger and stretches of looking completely invisible. He’s still very good especially at his price point.

Anyways, headed to Europe for ten days to hit up Budapest and then Oktoberfest in Munich. Lmk how preseason went when I get back.

And I would 100% admit that I was wrong except as I recall you were doing $1MM AAV for 2 years and then slowly kept upping it. I agree they lucked out though, as RW said it was the best option for this season. I feel strongly that we should’ve extended him long term and stayed out of the Tanev/Ferland market

As others and I noted he paced 25 and if others don’t seize the opportunities available in the top 6 I don’t think it’s unreasonable to think he might seize the moment a little longer than last year. I think Sully likes the familiarity there
