Obviously only 2nd game of preseason but the prospects have looked great. All of them haha. Pretty encouraging to see. It's too bad they all couldn't just start in AHL.

JR might have stolen a nice prospect in Marino. I know it's preseason, but this kid looks legit.

He does. I think a full year in the AHL and a few callups will serve him well.

Yup. My biggest disappointment. Obviously too early to judge.

Just an overall really solid game in all zones and net.

I thought Bjorkqvist was rehabbing an injury? He looked pretty good tonight too

I think there's way too much doom and gloom around the Pens. There's a lot to like about this team. Faster, more versatile forward group. Obviously the D has a couple of obstacles (one significant obstacle), but I think a deal or two will change that at some point.

Teams unambiguously better than the Pens ranked lower by Dom:

Washington
Colorado
San Jose

Teams very likely better:

Dallas
Florida
Philadelphia
Calgary

Something tells me he’s got Carolina ranked lower, also

Like'n Lafferty this eve
- MattStrat

Only got to see one period, but Lafferty jumped out to me as well. I think we'll see him at some point this year.

Gudbranson still looked like a competent defenseman.

I agree Washington is better, but most of these other teams have serious depth issues that the Pens don't. Look at the Flyers RD, or Dallas after their top 4 forwards.

Yeah, he was really noticeable and surprisingly more skilled than I expected. Wilkes Barre looks to be pretty loaded this year.

He was. But, he even noted how nervous he is right now. He'll find his place. I was surprised at how quick Poulin looked out there. And, I agree that Marino was a good pick up.

Completely forgot about Kahun in my lineup.

Hmmm... just saw this post... we actually agree on something: your first line, as it seems there are few who still put Horny on the first line with Sid and Jake. I like him up there banging people around while they're trying to focus on what Sid is up to. And cleaning up Sid's garbage around the net.

I see Lafferty, A.Johnson getting a lot of call ups if someone goes down. Poulin and Légaré look legit and should be up in 2-3 years max.

Joseph showed awesome passing getting out of our zone and good skating as well as Marino.

We have options moving forward and this is wonderful.

That said I could see us moving on from Rust, Aston-Reese and Schultz in the next couple years for cap purposes. Kahun and Simon are in check as well.

We were on the volleyball court last night, so I didn't get to see the game. But my extra set of eyes said Geno looked solid, and Petts was a +3. She also confirmed a couple things you saw, particularly the young D. Sounds good to me for preseason.

I would like to see or at least try the following:

Guentzel - Sid - Horny
Galch - Geno - Bjug
McCann - Simon - Rust
Kahun - Blueger - Tanev

I think Simon would be a better center than Galch and I think Galch would be a better winger than Simon. I also think Bjug would be better at wing.

As for Kahun, I'm not putting him in the top 6 until he earns it. He has one season of decent numbers playing with really good linemates.

I think not putting Galch in the top 6 is a waste, and if Kahun struggles, we know Simon isn't going to light the lamp on the regular so Malkin will just get frustrated again.

I've liked what I've seen from Simon at center and that seems to be a natural position for him.

I think people are short-changing Rust by penciling him on the 4th line. He easily has a better resume than McCann and Kahun so I don't know why they would jump him in the lineup.

lol Jacko as well. I could see moving on from Schultzy for cap purposes only. I like #4.
