Not sure he want's it either. They f'd him up one too many...!

- 21peter

I really wish they would have kept him. That trade was almost a slam dunk but Dallas didn't make it to the Conference Finals.

They wouldn't have been able to afford him though, so it looks like a move that had to happen.

Gotta believe the Rangers do a ceremony for him at some point.

Obviously, it will be on the day he starts as an assistant in Hartford.

I really believe if they did and the Rangers picked anywhere from 28-31 they were taking Matthew Robertson anyway

An outsider perspective is typically going to be what you're saying and I get it.

I remember the days when Anthony Duclair was our biggest prospect Can't wait to see what K'Andre Miller, Nils Lundkvist and Karl Henriksson can do.. Have a feeling they will all be up with the big boys next year

well Zuccarello isn't retiring from the NHL for a very long time yet, so it's pretty much a moot point

Minnesota is going to be one old team boy, that Spurgeon contract was nuts, they already have Parise and Suter forever, their goalies are old

in a league where every single team seems to be trying to get younger, the Wild are picking a bold strategy

- jimbro83

still pissed he went to that sorry place

happy for his $$ though

I think its a debatable thing, but I put Girardi above being just a "fan favorite".

To me a fan favorite could be anyone. Hell Domi was probably a fan favorite for the 3 years he was a Ranger, I don't think his number should be retired

I think Lundkvist will, I wonder if Miller will do 3 years at Wisconsin like McDonagh did

I mean he was a warrior, a leader, a great teammate...all that stuff, no argument there. But that's not really a "get your number permanently retired" reason in my book. If that's the case than I guess Cizikas should have his number retired at some point.

The Wild are the most mediocre team to ever be mediocre. Never bad enough to get a high pick but a perpetual playoff-bubble team with no real shot of ever advancing. I think they are probably in the top 3-5 least interesting teams in the league.
- eichiefs9

Thought you were talking about the 98-2002 NYR Minus the playoff bubble part.

They could retire Ulf and Girardi at the same ceremony.

Disagree.

Its not even a fan favorite. Its what he was for the Rangers

- mdw7413

Eh I'm sort of on Chiefs side. I can see the rationale for retiring the jersey for sure. However, he never really was a #1 D here. To me, getting your number retired is more than being the best player on the team over a decent amount of time, you have to be almost legendary. The only one from those teams that made that standard was Hank.

Girardi is a darn good player for his career, I'm just not sure it was enough to justify retiring his number.

Oh we were plenty bad enough, we just had a habit of picking mediocre players.

I don't doubt that, however I just don't see why when we are ready to contend in 2-3 years that you couldn't have developed a cheaper option by then. We have a decent amount of options coming through the system and that doesn't even account if by then guys like Robertson are pushing for a roster spot.

We know that Fast is at least going to get a slight raise from somebody. In no world would I want to pay 2 million for a 4th liner. As good as Dom Moore was for us, we were only paying him 1 million during our good years at a more important position.

- 2sticks1puck

But, the salary cap was $21.5M less then. I realize that contracts are rising along with the cap, but I don't know that $2M is that unreasonable for 1 of your 4th liners anymore. Obviously, they can't all get that. But, I'd call Fast an overachieving 4th liner.

They'd have to wait until they stop paying DiPietro, so maybe we can take this discussion up again in 2159
