Defensive gem tonight?

5 goals and Petey & the Flow (would be a good detective show) are shut out?

unfortunately he only shines for 3 mins a game...
- Brooks_Light

No, that is 3 minutes in pre-season games, against teams with 15 ahl players, on their roster, get it correct.๐Ÿ˜

Well by shot quality, the sites I look at actually determine the quality of a shot based on where the player was on the ice. Shots from the crease/slot area are proven to be of better quality. Also, these sites consider one timers to be quality shots as well, less time for the goalies/dmen to get set.

The sweet thing is these sites also track passes, so a you can see if a player is good at teeing up one timers or passing the puck to players in near the net/slot for scoring chances.

They also track how well forwards gain the blue line with possession instead of turning it over or dumping it in. One site takes it a step further by evaluating what the forward does once he gains the zone. These stats expose guys like David Booth who used to be corsi beasts and great at entering the zone with the puck but would then settle for long range shots that the goalie would easily save. Virtanen and Bo for example are polar opposites, Jake has a habit of taking long range shots and Bo does a good job trying to drive the net when he's on a one man rush.

Defensively, they track how well a dman does at protecting his blue line by forcing turnovers or forcing dump-ins instead of allowing clean possession entries. Then they track the quality of shots the dman allows from the other team when he's on the ice. And finally, they track how well a dman can move or skate the puck out of their end instead of chipping it out or turning it over.

I find all of this data a hundred times more valuable than corsi or +/-

- Nucker101

yeah good stuff nucker

shot quality, scoring chance generation and passes to the slot etc seem to be getting heaps of traction lately

as well as zone entries (as you mentioned) and exits as nighthawk mentioned previously

i think they're starting to get to the essence of what matters. i'm sure most of "public" analytics are informed by what teams/coaches are looking at on a regular basis, though im sure theres plenty of feedback the other way too

But it is still 3 more minutes than Jake or Goldy.

I have liked Graovac this camp.

I am just kidding around, about Gaudette. I hope the kid does well, but, again this is pre-season, so I don't get to excited about players until I see them perform against nhl players.
The last game or 2 of pre-season, is a much better indicator.
I liked Graovac, when I watched a couple games of the Wild, a few seasons ago, should be a good depth guy.

I really don't put a lot into pre season anymore after the Shirokov dream .

Some traits that I have seen in other seasons with players like Jake and Goldy show up in pre season and regular camp and to me I would be okay with moving on.

I would look at Jake for Puljujarvi who is doing okay . He is a point a game this year.

I also would be okay with moving on with Stecher seeing he is going to want a raise next year and I think by then Rafferty will be ready. Stecher Goldy and OJ for Ristolainen and a third. I think Briesbois has passed OJ in the depth chart now.

Never got to watch the game, but, I think it is a safe bet, that at least one of the goalies, hits the waiver wire,(minors) today.
After watching the hi-lites,, some pretty bad goals against.Vantel could have done better, and he's almost a hundred years old.

I think team should start the season with 14 F 7D

Not too worried about losing Biega or Fatenberg on waivers.

Adding Graovac to the list you are looking at 14 forwards that would be needing waivers plus Petey, Brock.

After last nights PK duties showed that Pearson and Gaudette are a no go in that area.

Beagle, Motte, Eriksson, Sutter, Schaller, Roussell were the top 6 PKers last season.

I think today's cuts will be MacIntyre Backman MacEwen Boucher Fantenberg Chatfield Sautner

I am hoping Graovac and Briesbois get a longer look

the AHL players did suck last night.

Three pre season games left.

I watched the first two periods last night and was surprised when I saw Mac was playing on the scoresheet after

Trying to figure out lines in my head this morning.
Ferland Petey Boeser
Baertschi Horvat Miller
Pearson Sutter Leivo
Eriksson Beagle Motte
Virtanen, Goldy.

I think that is pretty close . Don't forget Roussel also . I think it is time to trade JV and Goldy. They have value and there is a whole lot of nothing going on.

I think people could stomach Jake for Poolparty. Jake says the right things but just can't put it together.

Stetcher, depending on his ask on the next contract, could be the odd one out. With Myers and Hughes, his offense isn't quite up to snuff to keep him as an offensive D man. I wouldn't give up on OJ yet, some injuries have hampered him but he's still going to be a good player.

I am not there with OJ but I don't think it matters.

My thing with Stecher is he doesn't have finish. Good puck mover with a muffin shot.

The new kids Rafferty Teves Briesbois Elliot are good for moving puck and shooting but need to learn to play in their own end more. Like I said Briesbois has had a solid camp. good at moving the puck and shooting and has been strong on battles . He had a good summer.

Just left Roussell off for the time being.

I'm not sure what the value is if you traded the two of them as a package or even separate or what Van could even use in return. Picks and young prospects would be best since Utica is almost full.

I doubt Van would get a single better player with the same or equal contract.

I don't think I want Jake going to Edmonton, Kassian is kind of a pain in the ass when he comes back to Van.

Good thing is Van has NHL looking defence and that will allow the kids to marinate and like AG last season probably get games when injuries happen.

Too much like exchanging Gudbranson for Schenn for me to make that deal.

Flyers need bodies and have 1.1 in cap space with needing 2 players.

Laughton (2.3) plus pick or prospect for Virtanen and Goldy

Zacha (2.25) plus pick or prospect

Sobotka Buf keeps 1.4 M and Buffalo first (same condition as Van's 1st with TB)

I agree with Stecher, he's good enough for what he brings, there are just people coming up that do as much or a little more than him for what will be cheaper. Good problem to have.
