If Boston is playing their vets this one could get ugly. That is a lot of talent left out of the lineup for us.

It's preseason, hopefully their vets are in so it makes the coaching staff's job easier to determine who belongs and who doesn't. A win or a loss is meaningless, even for morale.

Agreed. But some of us do have money on the game.

Honestly I'm betting on Boston for this one. With the pre-season rosters the way they are it's good odds that the bookies don't really seem to account for. I've made $400 the last week between NHL and NFL games.

Borgata also keeps giving me free sports bets which is basically like giving away free money if you just play the favorites.

They’re really taking a long look at Morin and I understand he’s not as new and shiny as Zamula or Myers but I think he has value for the club.

The degen in me appreciates this post. I've made a killing just opening up a bunch of sports accounts in NJ and PA and getting all the promo bets and then just cashing them out.

Very disappointed with what I saw Thursday. We came out with a loaded line up and Boston next to nobody and we lose.

Saturday, much better results.

I don’t think anyone has looked terrible so far. You would think now is Morin’s best opportunity.

Honestly, I think they have to give him a long look because this is probably it for him. I know I'm probably going to get flak for this for mentioning it on this board, but he's basically your Mcilrath at this point. Both were picked in the same area of the draft, both play the same style, both looked promising but had injuries that delayed their development, both had fans clamoring to just play them but their respective franchises just never did.

I think his odds are pretty long. I'd say he's probably 8th on your depth chart right now. You'd probably point out after Braun leaves that would raise his standing up, but then you guys have Zamula who I hear you really like, and eventually York coming up. He's also 24, which isn't old by any means, but it today's NHL isn't exactly young either. It's also possible management is trying to showcase him just in case a team would give a draft pick for him, even a late one.

So Myers and Hagg and next season Zamula over Morin then. So it's a wasted pick basically. Nobody's shelling up a pick for him but at the same token, the second he's waived (he has to be waived if he doesn't make the big club) he'll be scooped up instantly.

Nolan Patrick and Sam Morin for Patrick Laine...

I'm not a fan of Laine's overall game but he is a true sniper. With that, I guess you deal with the other BS. No defense, avoids contact, etc.

Even with injury history, I think it's too early to give up on Patrick. #2 overall. He needs to step up consistently this year big time.

I, personally, would not make this deal. Just trying to get everyone Flyered up this morning. Can't wait for this season.

Hey, if he's willing to sign for $3M, sure.

Btw, how many first rounders are we including for Winnipeg to accept?

It would be a wasted pick that would have happened 7 years ago next spring, it would have zero bearing on the future direction of the Flyers. It sucks, but no team ever bats 1.000 in the draft. At least in the second round that year you got Hagg who if anything else, is a cheap serviceable depth NHL D.

As weak as D is around the league, you are right that a team would pick him up instantly. I don't think it would be worth losing sleep over. You can always find exceptions, but guys who are 24 and haven't gotten a full time NHL job by then on average usually don't ever become anything.

Zamula is going to spend at least one full season in the AHL. He's not as good a prospect as Sanheim was, and Sanheim played all of 16-17 with the Phantoms.

Generally, yes, but he's actually played well in the AHL. Just can't stay healthy and is a victim of a numbers game. If they had the same D from 3 years ago, he'd be a lock for the back 4.

Honestly, I'm still a bit shocked that the one year you never gave him an opportunity. I agree that you can't put young players in a position to fail, but there really wasn't anyone blocking him from getting a decent look at that time. As desperate for defense as teams are, even if you thought eventually he would still lose the numbers game, he probably would have had some trade value.

If the Flyers end up losing him, might be the best thing for Morin to be with another team. He probably could still try to carve himself out a decent career by being a cheap third pair guy. I just don't see him ever getting a real opportunity now with the Flyers and it doesn't really make sense for you to use a roster spot on someone who probably doesn't figure much in your plans. It certainly doesn't help him being better by being the press box every night.

Don't know. I last saw him skate on Wed but he may have been out before I got there or on the other rink the subsequent days. Didn't see him around but doesn't necessarily mean he wasn't there. Could also have done some off-ice work.

It's very difficult to see how Morin is going to get any ice time this season unless the team feels he is better than Haag and some injuries happen.
