I think his vision is tunnel vision, and that’s the problem
He’s putting too much faith in a few guys panning out and he’s not going to rush anything.
It’s about to be to a fault too - OneKaneOneCup
If Mittlestadt doesn’t pan out this year I can see it happening. If Mittelstadt becomes the player he has the potential to be I don’t see why Botts would get the can this year even if we do miss the playoffs. UPL fulfilling his potential would only further his cause.
He has set the team up for success here for year on out. We will have a lot more roster flexibility this coming offseason as well to add to this roster while Mitts, Dahlin, Cozens all mature another year. |

I think he’s done a fantastic job in a lot of areas.
I think cutting bait on bad players is where he’s just plain not doing the right thing.
Having all of 21,6,17, 55 in the lineup in one week is just plain unacceptable. 47 in a month or so too. And you can add in 28 to that as well (I think Larsson is a lot better than people give him credit for )
I was confident he’d have made another move by now |
|
|
|
Next year’s roster flexibility is nice and all, but it hardly guarantees success.
We are going to have a couple RFAs in line for chunky raises.
Filling the many available slots with rookies and UFAs is somewhat of a crapshoot. Counting on free agents wanting to come here, short of a gross overpayment is at least a little worrisome.
What’s encouraging though, is JB’s most recent moves have been pretty good. He’ll just have to make a whole lot of them. |

Top 10 maybe, giants look better already.
1. Miami
2. Broncos
3. Bengals
4. Skins
5. Arz.
6. Jets
7. Raiders
8. Jags
9. Giants
10. Steelers
Maybe I missed a team or 2? - Boss34
The Giants only look better because Eli's not playing. They still allowed 31 points last week. So the team the Bills beat was really bad. I think the Bengals are better than their record, and they could easily finish second in that train wreck of a division. |

I can honestly see him getting fired unless we manage to just miss or squeak into the playoffs.
I'm going to predict: October and November are going to be rough. December, we'll start to look a little more consistent defensively once everyone settles down. By the all-star game, we will be hoovering around 12th and Ristolainen will be traded between the ASG and the TDL - I'm calling it now, Kadri will fall on his face in Colorado and we will trade Risto for him in my dark-horse trade of the year, and Kadri of all people will bring a spark to this team that we haven't had since Matthew Barnaby. We will make an epic run to 85pts. but it might be enough to finish just outside the last Wild Card spot - which we will lose to Columbus, who go on to defeat Tampa Bay in the 1st round yet again. - BeadyEyedDouche
I'd do that. |

(I think Larsson is a lot better than people give him credit for ) - OneKaneOneCup
Nope. He isn't.
He is an average 4th liner, at best. There's no need to give him any kind of credit when all he does is show up and do his job - that's great and all, but he's never going to bust ass and make you wish you had "5 more just like him!".
FFS, Matt Ellis was the king of having two-goal games simply based off of his hard work.
Larsson is who he is - and that's precisely the problem. Smith, Asplund, Routsalainen - all three of them deserved his roster spot simply for the fresh face. And not to mention, they all looked sharp in TC and Pre-season - they played him off the team. But jbotts has to justify those ridiculous 1-year deals he signed Zemgus and Johan to and keep them anchoring the 4th line, falling on the ice, missing the net every time they shoot, and being generally useless. |

I would have made this trade with Toronto, even, but the logistics for both teams wouldn't have worked - idgaf about rivalries. Colorado needs any kind of help on defense and I don't see Kadri doing well in the West tbh.
However, I think Colorado might have to add at least a 3rd, because Kadri is about to be 29 and Risto is entering his prime at 25, otherwise this would be a pretty good value, depending on how each player's year goes.

The first 10 games are not easy. We will learn a lot about them quickly, especially in relation to the teams we need to be better than: NJD, FLA, MTL |

They probably will regardless with a new coach. It’s bound to happen.
They also probably will if they dress Sobotka, Okposo and Scandella because they blow donkey balls yet are still firmly entrenched in the lineup |

Someone brought this up earlier and I think it should be expanded on... how about Mittlechunk and Tage both starting in Rochester, on the same line until at least February. Let those two build chemistry.
I rather see them both start and be successful in Rochester than struggle up here. And I would suffer with Jack, Johansson, ERod, pick one, down the middle to let those two kids develop a bit... - Gr8daygo
Sending Mitts to Rochester is an idea I’ve brought up as well
I’d be extremely surprised if it happened,
but it might actually be a good idea |

Sobotka is not the worst player out here tonight. - TheSabresTaco
They showed a 'highlight' package of Sobotka and his good plays during the game, which featured, at one point, him deflecting a pass when Columbus was exiting their defensive zone, only to see him skate AWAY from the puck when it was readily available to be gotten and be attacking the offensive zone. Some good play there. |

It’s just crazy to me.
We all see how solid a guy like Johansson is. Go get another guy similar in quality.
It’s not that hard.
Moulson Okposo, waive Wilson and Sobotka, give Pominville a one year minimum to be the 13th forward - OneKaneOneCup
I don't understand how it's unclear that both Asplund and Lazar deserve a spot in the lineup over any of the retreads (Okposo, Larsson, Girgs, Sobotka) by their play so far this preseason.
They have looked markedly better than the 4 bums I named.
This having to look like an all star nonsense is ridiculous, especially when the players they would be replacing are poopsacks. |

Go all in on Taylor Hall if he makes it to UFA status, or Ristolainen++ for Hall.
Also go for Toffoli on a smaller scale as a UFA? |
