I understand what you're saying, but how do you separate looking ready from being ready? Obviously you can look not ready and be not ready, and you can look ready and be ready, but being deceptively not ready is a whole new category of not ready

So last night I am at the game sitting up in the cheap seats at center ice. It really was interesting to see Dahlin and Risto being paired together. On his side of the ice Dahlin really looks great. What I think gets overlooked about him is how he looks to throttle the other team at their blue line or at center ice. He regularly jumped up to shut down the breakout before it even started. When the puck was on Risto's side there was absolutely no activation (which his probably why his zone prevention numbers have been historically bad).

There were some breakdowns last night on Twitter of how Risto just doesn’t know what to do with the puck.

Get him off the top pair

Fire it off the glass for an icing isn’t optimal? Huh.

Why they are playing Risto with Dahlin is beyond me. I thought Miller would be a good d partner for Dahlin.

These players, this situation, and my opinion of sending Cozens back to the WHL has absolutely nothing to do with your terrible comparisons and scouting reports.

I have zero issue that he was sent back. I even preferred it.

I also agree. Plus his 3 year entry deal will end when some salaries fall off. This is a cap world and planning 4 years out is very important. Especially when you give player 4 players long term deals. Jack, Skinner, Dahlin and Sam (after this year).

watching the two of them on the ice together amplifies allllllllllll of the issues in Risto's game that we previously never really noticed. As soon as the puck comes to him (namely in the neutral or defensive zone) he basically looks like he panics and that the puck is like a hot potato. He dumps it off as soon as he can, even if it's to the opposing team. It's pretty brutal.

Speed can make up for readiness. I think Kaletta is the last good example for this - I think with more time in the minors his talent would have caught up with his speed. I know people laugh at this but the kid had talent that was ultimately wasted.

Yeah, I get what you're saying, and I understand why they did what they did. I also think Cozens was one of the 12 best forwards. I think he was more ready than some veterans, but not ready to make a huge jump. It's fine and it bodes well for the future

Like ready, ready? Or like ready but not fully ready? Or like a whole different scope of not ready while looking ready?

You cant even use your eyes to gauge readiness anymore. Is Sobotka ready? As ready as he'll ever be, I guess

The bottom six still sucks since they had to move Mojo and Vesey from rightful 3rd liners into Top Six roles.

You're not wrong that guys like Mojo and Vesey are probably getting asked to do too much.

But I think the outcome will be better. Remember they're pushing Sheary and Sobotka down. That can't be a bad thing.

He's doing his job. This isnt an emergency situation with risto.

Until yesterday, when risto blew by crags, in the autograph line. Now he must go.

So, I get that benefit you express there...no doubt I'd rather watch Mojo and Vesey more than Sheary and Sobotka.
But, just more of the same that we have watched for ever it seems like...too many guys playing a level over their optimal level.
so to net it out...
-Sheary should be traded away
-Sobotka should be sent down
-Vesey should be on line 3 (in a perfect world)
-Mojo should be on line 3 (in a perfect world)
-Casey should be sent down until he shows he can play competently
-Thompson I think should be down as well until he transitions into a power forward...not just a tall guys with a (wait for it) ... long stick.

Personally I would have rather seen Asplund in his role of 4C this season rather Larry or Sobotka

Meh, just reinforces this is going to be a tough season to get through unless Magic Man Ralphie-boy has more than a few Rabbits up his ass.
