CJ Smith got passed over by 30 teams, so clearly the GM and Coach here weren't the only ones unimpressed.

Cozens will benefit from another year in Jr, even if it's just to keep him away from the trainwreck that this team may end up again this year.

None of the players you'd rather see here over the ones still currently here are going to make that big of an impact on the roster overall that it takes the needed steps forward. We're still going to be trying to jam a round peg into a square hole at 2C, and until they figure that spot out, that line will struggle to produce the way it needs to for this roster to really take the next step and be able to compete the way we'd all like it to.

Fair question: isn't any improvement an improvement overall, even if only incremental? And if so, why not make the improvement?

As a runner, it feels like saying unless something makes a huge improvement in my results, it doesn't really matter and isn't worth doing, which makes little sense to me.

So Gilmour has to clear waivers? I'd keep him up and expose Nelson.

Amerks lose 4-1.

Clearly they need Okposo, Larsson and Scandella down there to help.

Not a big deal. Aside from Oglevie, it was mostly an ECHL lineup. Olson had a good game.

Correct. Gilmour has looked good. With McCabe hurt, maybe he stays for the time being.

Just a guess on my part, but I wonder if Bogo goes on LTIR. They don't have a timeline when he could return and 2 hip surgeries over the span of 14 months doesn't bode well.

So this may be pure insanity as it has not worked out yet but seeing how he's played in the games he's been in the preseason (I know, I know), why not try Sam at 2C? We only have 6 forwards that shoot right so that pretty much leaves someone like TT or Erod on the right side of him or Jack. We are left handed rich at forward so maybe someone like Vesey can scoot over to the right of Jack or, Olo does just fine in the position on the PP. A different attack of course but that could open up wing time for Mitts which might be beneficial to him...

Vesey - Jack - Olo
Skins - Sam - ERod/TT
Mitts - Mojo - TT/Erod
Sheary/Lazar - Lockport - Slopokso

Again, probably pure insanity but would have been something I would have liked to see.

Edit: I prefer Asplund in Lockports place but we all know it's not gonna happen.

If Montour and McCabe are both ready, though, they're going to have to make a decision on one of these guys by Thursday.

Dahlin, Miller, Risto, Scandella, Montour, McCabe.

That leaves Joker, Nelson and Gilmour, correct? Joker can go down (and he really hasn't done much to warrant a spot, anyway, imo).

Joker does not have to be exposed to waivers so he can go down. I would agree with the 6 you mentioned to start and they could keep Nelson as the 7th. Then Pilut comes back they'll have another decision to make.

Once upon a time in Rochester, in the mid70s when I first started stealing beers from my old man, the only question was whether you drank Cream Ales or Red Eyes. Neither one was particularly good but they were both OK and they were cold and they brought a buzz, and Topper and Standard had already closed up shop by that time.

Some people thought they were fancy. They drank Lowenbrau - premillennial poseurs. Mostly McQuaid asswipes from Pittsford.

Then in the late 70s along came OVs, and Molsons, and Labatts - and Coors! - and they were deemed exotic and new and better. So Genny had to branch out and went on this odd diversification of brands - Lite Beers, 12 Horse, JW Dundee, Honey Brown, all that stuff. Right around the same time Utica Club switched its name to FX Matt’s at first, and then more romantically, Saranac.

And good old Cream Ales and Red Eyes got left behind and couldn’t sell because that was your grandfathers beer. And then came Coronas and all the microbrews and ABV and home brewing. And for the Cream
Ales or the Red Eyes to move, they had to be cheap enough for your grandfather who by now was 80, or your occasional “ironic” 20-something beady-eyed-douchebag who claims to love it in some kind of contrarian bid for authenticity.

So yeah, they're still pretty cheap, and now, ironically under the proper Genny label, in addition to the Bock, which was always a big deal every spring, they’re making the Kolsch, and an Octoberfest. I didn’t like the Kolsch - the grapefruit was way over the top - and after a couple of Octoberfests I start to suspect they’re just Bocks in a different can. It’ll be interesting to see what Genny uses to bridge the season from Octoberfest to Bock, some sort of marketing thing, a Saison maybe, or porter??

I’ll just keep kicking the Red Eyes. And the Bocks when I can find em.

Asplund has played well enough to stay but they'll keep the Lockport broken trio. Tage is a big question at this point, does he stay?

My top 9 to start

I too was captivated by the history lesson. I genuinely enjoy a screamer here and there, but let's be honest, it's not a quality beer.

Devil's Advocate, and honest question.

Has Asplund shown that he can do Larsson's job better than Larsson?

Truly, what has he shown this camp?

Asplund has shown he can be just as invisible as Mitts, though.

Probably Rochester. He would pair with Redmond there. That would be an explosive d pair.

He is as good a PK'er as Larry and has a more rounded game in my view. I thought he has played well enough in the pre-season. My judgement though is probably biased because I hate Larsson.

I thought Mitts had a nice game on Wednesday. He didn't look sharp on that first goal, but he did some nice things with the puck.

That said, I expect more.

Hopefully he clears. Harrington (yes, I know) speculated that he wouldn't clear, because there were multiple teams after him in FA and the solid preseason he's had.

Let's hope if he goes the waiver route he gets through. He has potential to be an NHL'er, just needs a chance.

Let's face it, the scrubs will be here and Lazar, Asplund and Tage will be headed down the thruway. We all know it.
