Family friend's son just passed away. Toxicology report showed Kratom as the cause of death. While OTC, I would suggest anyone get a medical opinion prior to use. - BenderRodriguez
That was the only thing in his system? I'm not saying ite impossible but I've never seen or heard of anyone passing from kratom. Whether it's true or not my condolances til your friend and their family
I've taken it daily for 4 years and I love it, as do many people that I know...
But I stand by my medication for NoPa. It works |

Honestly. Matt Read looks really good tonight. I think he just may have an NHL job after tonight. - SuperSchennBros
He really looked cooked a few years ago. Good for him to turn it around. I really thought he was going to be a big piece after his rookie year but I think injuries must've taken their toll on him because he never looked as good as that year again. |

Same. Matt Read with his skill set and rookie season should have grew into a lot more. It’s weird that he went so south here. Some of it was injury that he was playing through but after year one, he always felt a set behind all the major players on this team. |

Yeah, we still got a number of good years out of him and he developed into a good role player for the team but I was really expecting him to be a strong top 6 scoring threat and it never really panned out that way. |

Matt Read gave the Flyers 3 really strong seasons where he was producing at ES at a high level while in a checking role. Really good find as an undrafted UFA. |

I’d rather be us then the Wings who are likely basing what their roster will look like on training camp. |

Migraines? Really? Does anyone believe that? I have migraine issues. Always have. My son at age of 12 started getting them too. You know what I did? Took him to neurologist. Got him on meds. It’s doesn’t take 4 months to rule out concussion and diagnosis migraines. And if he’s had them growing up we are to believe this wasn’t dealt with before? Something is very fishy. You don’t all of a sudden start getting them at age 21 really bad and often enough to put you out of training. And games. Story doesn’t add up |

If one has all the details, sure it can make sense. Do you really expect Fletcher to give us the play-by-play of Patrick’s history and frequency of migraines since childhood along with his medication list and dosage? It surely not hard to understand that post-concussion symptoms are somewhat similar, and due to his injury history that needs to be ruled out.
What story are you trying to spin? |

From what I've been told, yes. I haven't don't enough of my own research to draw a conclusion. Just figured I would pass it along. Never hurts to consult a doc with things like that. Glad it's worked well and has been safe for you. Appreciate the condolences. |

bumping this. Kratom does have its uses but like every other drug out there, you need to do your research and make sure it's actually right for you. taking too much of anything, combining substance with more substance or certain genetic predispositions is dangerous. dont take something just because you heard a few times that it worked miracles for a few people. stay informed and find what is right for YOU. |

Ignroing the fact that the article says he has a history of migraines as does his family. From the article, "Nolan does have a history of migraines back when he was younger. There’s a family history as well"
Ignoring the fact he was coming off a concussion which could have triggered it.
Ignoring the fact that in the medical world especially on things that aren't standard people don't heal and progress the same..
You are right.. Flyers are lying. |

The Leafs had part of their trading camp in my town (Paradise, NL) and Matt Read actually stood out in the scrimmages. He scored a nice goal and had a great camp early. Hope he makes it back into the big time. |

Everyone's experience is different. My nephew, age 15, went through hell trying to get his migraines under control. Missed a lot of school and playing sports was out all year. The condition took a long time to diagnose -- he was tested for many different things -- and then it further time to find a treatment that provided more than slight relief. Finally, he started to get periodic lidocaine injections directly into his scalp-- every bit as unpleasant as it sounds. Total relief but temporary. It has worked, but it's kind of via last resort.
Point being, just because your son's experience was thankfully relatively straightforward, that doesn't make it so for everyone. |

I will agree it does seem a tad fishy.....I guess some get them worse then others. You would have thought that when he started having them a few years back that it would have been dealt with. It will be interesting to see how it plays out. For his and the Flyers sake I’m hoping for a positive out come. |

how do you think Patrick's migraines started? - Hckygoalie31
Migraines can be caused by so many reasons. for me, my migraines with aura ended up most likely (I say most likely because the neurologist couldn't say with certainty) was being caused by a brain aneurysm. the brain is a complex thing. the fact his family has history makes me believe its something else other than concussions. Regardless I'm sure he has the best doctors and they will come up with a plan to manage it |

This was the point I was getting towards. Anything can be abused and especially combining things, natural or not, can ultimately lead to injury or death. While I dont fully believe kratom was the only thing in his system it is still a smart idea to start lightly and find what YOU can tolerate. You can abuse anything....even aspirin. Prayers are definitely with your friend's family and all involved |
