Hate to be that guy but can we move the draft to 6 or 7pm? I will not be able to do it at 5pm. If not, no worries i will do my best or have someone draft for me. - ClaudeFather
Haha dude I did this all the time for football drafts, but Yahoo is set to Pacific time, so it will be 8pm. Hope that it's not too late but shouldn't take more than an hour and a half. |

And having a guy score 15+ goals and 30+ points in his first full season in the NHL as a 5th rounder really isn't all that impressive, either. - jmatchett383
Nope, if you don't have 80 points by your 37th game....sucks. |

Stating that ego was involved in Hextall deciding to pick Patrick with the 2nd overall pick is one of the most ridiculous comments I've read here on Hockeybuzz. - MJL

So guys like Sanheim, Provorov, Konecny, Farabee, Lindblom, and Patrick (not to mention signing Myers as a UFA) were bad choices? Please show me what GM had a better draft record over that time.
I do believe that Hexy micro-managed and made some bad choices (such as the alumni dressing room issue and controlling what players could/couldn't eat). And his "spying" issue with Pryor definitely was not wise, at least getting caught wasn't. But to say that he drafted Patrick based on ego just seems odd to me. - jmatchett383
add that the bulk of his later picks are just now maturing, I think we well get a few surprises... |

Probably Bunnaman once Patrick back.
(Raffl or Twarynski)/Laughton/NAK is my ideal L4. - Tomahawk
I can't see Patrick playing till late October. |

Fletcher on Stewart: "Chris has scored quite a few NHL goals. He’s got a lot more skill than people give him credit for. He’s a really good skater, esp straight line. Brings the elements of being a quality power forward. He continues to get better and deserves to be here.” - daryl stanley
Mike Richards has even more NHL goals. Is he available for a PTO? |

dude are you serious? just give it up. hart has looked good but he has only 31 games under his belt. according to you Hart is great, but other guys with more accomplishments like provy, sanheim, lindblom, TK, etc etc, dont look great? - sjk540
Hart was a third round steal providing first round value. Thats why it was Hexys best pick. Picking projected first rounders in the first round isn’t all that impressive for a guy many around here laud as a drafting genius.

So there aren't mines you have to avoid in the first round? I mean cmon look at guys like Pavel Zacha, Nail Yakupov, Valeri Nichushkin, Sam Bennett, and thats just to name a very small amount but there are plenty of examples of busts in the first round and in the top 10 that didn't pan out. It still takes good scouting and drafting to navigate around those types of players. i seriously don't understand, of all things!, the bashing of hexy's drafting - sjk540
Yes, there are. Hexy didn’t necessarily avoid them either (O’Brien) He just had a lot of picks to use.
If he would have made some of the picks and traded others for proven assets I would be more impressed. He would also probably still be the GM. |

He was the consensus number 2 pick. Who would you have taken? - aightwebang17
Wow, I’m late to the party but I wasn’t trying to start a hate-fest on Patrick. At the time I felt we really only had one potential high-end young defenseman in Provorov so I was really high on Heiskanen and Makar, especially Heiskanen.
I wanted Hextall to start building that backend and I had some legitimate concerns about Patrick’s skating (east/west) and his injury’s. |

Bill, thank you for summing up the Patrick migraine situation information so well and for your level headed assessment of him as a player. There must be other players in the NHL dealing with migraines. Didn't Nick Bjugstad have migraine issues? I dont think there's anything out there that will cure migraines, but I'm wondering how successful other players have been with dealing with this problem? - Dkos
Krstom is a healthy and natural medicine used to treat migraines. Combined with cannbis, where legal, it will stop migraines in their tracks.

you do understand that instead of picking the guy he picked, he could have picked someone else right? like instead of picking provorov, he could have picked zacha. i'm not saying zacha is absolutely terrible, but he's definitely not living up to being chosen 6th overall. acting like these are no brainers is hilarious. |

Who would you have chosen over O'Brien for example?
There is not one player chosen after him who has played in the NHL except Isac Lundestrom (15 games) so its all hindsight.
The other part is what proven assets? It takes two teams to tango and saying he should have traded pick for proven assets ignores that fact.
Full disclosure I wasn't and still am not all that enamored with the O'Brien pick. But calling him a bust is silly.
