Or rushing, either. - Wetbandit1
Josh Allen has been a bottom 5 QB this year and the Bills are 3-1 so I still fail to see where I'm wrong by saying a good running game and defence can get you places.
Blake Bortles played in an AFC Championship game a few years ago. Mitch Trubisky won the NFC North last year. Marcus Mariota has led the Titans to the playoffs two years in a row. |

Uh except for the part where he was top 5 in adjusted completion percentage before today |

Pekar is an energy forward at his ceiling.
His pipeline is incredibly thin at forward - jcragcrumple
He’s actually been a pretty good scorer at every level but whatever I’m not gonna argue that. He has 5 goals in 4 games in the OHL.
We have 3 bonafide top 6 forwards- 2 probables in Cozens and Olofsson and a maybe in Mittelstadt.
We also have a bunch of 3rd/4th liners in Asplund, Ruostolainen, Davidsson, etc.
It’s really not bad. They needed to add another top 6/9 guy though and they didn’t |

Allen was on pace for 4,000 yards before he got injured. Let's not act as if he's the second coming of JP Losman. |

I believe you have been one of the posters talking about the "Botterill 10" UFAs, and how we cant compete until they're gone.
No mention that he spent assets to bring them in, or the ones he didn't, he extended
His defenders want it both ways:
He didn't squander assets, but if he did, he had to
And if he didn't do enough, he couldn't possibly have done more - jcragcrumple
I admit that I have vasilated with Botts, no doubt.
I too wish he had done more, yet I also look at what he has done so far and am generally ok with the big picture.
I do have issues with certain things he has done...most notable not getting more top 6 help through a Risto+ trade (note, I don't think Risto is very good, hence why I think he is a component piece in a trade to land a 2Cpreferably, 2RW elsewise),
The scrubs are here, and yes several are by his own doing...so he doesn't get a pass on that.but, oncexagain back to the big picture...he inherited a complete disaster void of any tradable assets sans EK9er and CryBaby...and there, Ownership tied his hands on both IMO.
So while EVERYONE would like to be further along, me included, I simply don't think it was possible with the complete poop in Buffalo, Rochester and Cincy.
You have imposed a fantasy 3 year timeline. Trying to demolish, clean up, prepare the land takes an extra year...you seem to absolutely refuse to see it. Yes, other gms traded good assets away to kick start their rebuild. Murray spent them All..your beef is best served at the feet of
A) Murray
B) players who quit last year...and some may be in the inner circle |

You never said what?
I have no idea what you have or haven't said.
Here's what I've heard from Botterill defenders:
- "He's building the right way"
But he's spent assets on players who are part of the 10 UFAs we cant wait to get rid of
- "Can't rush the rebuild"
See above
- "Can't build a roster overnight"
Overcommitted to one position
His roster of retreads needs to show improvement over the admittedly awful Housley, or he needs to go. He could have made more changes, but he chose not to; changes that wouldn't have even cost him assets. I'm talking about internal changes.
Put up or shut up time.
I hope the additions bail him out. I swear to god, I do - jcragcrumple
Yet you complain about him spending assets,
when acquiring players like Miller & Vesey will help us now
Would you rather have those guys...
or the picks that would likely turn out to be depth players at best? |

I dont know if you're being purposefully dense, or if you dont get it, but here it is laid out as plainly as I can:
Botterill is getting credit simultaneously for:
"Building the right way"
While
Spending assets to acquire players who are included in the 10 UFAs that "we need to get rid of before we can compete"
He's getting credit for both as he has accomplished nothing to this point. Maybe it changes this year! It should, or he should lose his job |

Botts defenders are really double minded.
All of this is so moot.
Botts defenders put the onus on us critics to be a better gm than he is. "What else would you have done?"
Bottom line. This is year three if we don't make the playoffs after three years, he should be fired. The bar has been set stupidly low. Make the playoffs, something more than half the teams do. And not even make the playoffs every year, just once in three years, something almost eyouvery other team has done.
Contrary the popular belief he DID NOT inherit a bare roster. He inherited a roster with Jack Eichel and Sam Reinhart and Ryan OReilly and Evander Cane, which is a better top four than we have now. I'm not saying he needed to build a dynasty with that team, but it's simply unnacceptable to miss the playoffs for three years in this sport. The definition of success isn't whether you think he made the right amount of trades or drafted the right players or signed the right deals. The definition of success is having success. IF and that's if they can't make 8th this year, he is a failure. - matty12345
S
OK you are saying Terry and Kim should fire themselves for forcing Botts to trade Kane and for forcing the July 1st timeline for a ROR trade.
I'm with you there |

No longer the benchmark of a top QB
His 250yds/game is good enough for 19th
And there’s a couple guys behind him that will/would’ve pass(ed) him by the end of the season
He’s in the bottom 1/3 of passers in the league
Getting better
But had an absolutely horrible day,
and clearly shows he still has a ways to go |

Wow dude... this is bonkers
No one here is saying his moves have 100% worked out
You are arguing against a narrative that YOU have MADE UP
NO ONE is saying Botts has been amazing
We are saying that OVERALL, he’s moving us in the right direction...
Yes, “building the right way” with the organizational Center depth & Defense depth (2most important positions)
While spending assets to try & get us more competitive NOW
Some of those moves haven’t worked out
We ALL realize that
We also realize that the “wasted assets” you keep raving about would most likely have been depth players at best, and years from now
So we’re ok that some of his moves haven’t worked out
While still being happy about the current direction and future of the team |

I dont know what to say either.
Two of his 4 first rounders were forwards
One was a generational D man we needed.
For like the millionth time because you keep arguing this
- if any of his mid round picks end up top 6 forwards, we won’t know for a while.
Like how this is year 5 since Victor Olofsson was drafted |

I cannot help that u can’t comprehend obvious points
We all acknowledge that he “missed” on some of the UFAs to be
That’s how it goes
No one said he’s been amazing
Moving in the right direction bc he’s also made some GOOD ADDITIONS
And the Center & defense depth in the organization that he’s built also make us excited for the future
Sorry u don’t get it
Guess u can just keep being miserable |

Agreed. "Hero Ball" needs to stop. He'll learn. And I liked Daboll over at the bench saying, "you need to use your head". Allen knows. He'll get better. |
