The roster is just temporary. Their are a lot of teams trying to figure things out. My best guess is that it will take a week or 2 and you will start seeing some trades. Teams will quickly see what they are lacking and start looking for help. Many teams are still over the cap and have to either make a trade or release other players especially if they get in short term injury trouble. The Flyers have extra D which is a pretty good commodity to have and many teams are lacking... I think they will make a trade fairly soon for one of D to open a spot for Meyers and probably even told him to hold tight that his demotion is short term.
The Jets need D badly and have a bevy of solid young players up front. What would you realistically give up for say Laine, Connor or Ehlers? Gostisbehere? Sanheim? Or some other combination?

Jets with Buff retiring need D to get back to being legit cup contenders. They will fill the net with their scoring, but need D as well. If not a big name what would you want for say Morin? Hägg? Meyers from Wpg?

I'd dump Hagg on Winnipeg for a 2nd.

Chicago's initial roster has 13 F, 6 D and 2 G.

https://www.capfriendly.com/teams/blackhawks

Their top draft pick (#3 overall), Kirby Dach, is injured. But I assume he would have been going back to the WHL anyway.

- Feanor

Rumor is Dach has a real shot, but who knows

The WHL could do him some good, but he’s impressed in camp minus the injury. I don’t think he’s been sent down yet, but I can’t blame them if they do. Probably doesn’t behoove them to see him struggle in their garbage fire of a bottom 6. Sounds familiar...

I would, too, but we wouldn’t get a 2nd. Nah.

I don’t mind Hägg, but for a 2nd, sure. Sold.

You are right. I would much rather this bubble team be unable to do anything.
- MBFlyerfan

Ok. Let's just forfeit the season now and save us 7 months of aggravation.

Pretty sure we can cross Connor off of that wish list. That’s their boy. They love him, as well they should. Can’t blame them for giving him that contract.

Ehlers would intrigue me. I think that he could be had reasonably. He does a have a propensity for disappearing in the playoffs, tho. Could be a coincidence, but understand that caveat going in.

They’ll prolly want Ghost for him with Buff’s absence. You cool with that?

Oh how we missed the days of LTIR and being up against the cap

Really need to see a hungry Flyers forecheck. Haven't really seen that this preseason. Hard on the forecheck getting in on the defensemen to make hits and separate pucks and create mayhem.

I missed them too. But apparent there is no cap cup. (whatever that means)

I love rooting for a team that hasn't made the playoffs and will struggle to do it this season being right up against the cap as if they are a cup contender.

And will probably be right there next season unless we deal some of our younger players for picks.

Good times.

And hopefully when they DO do it, it wont be late in the 2nd period being down by two goals.

Which young players will need to be dealt for picks?

I didn't realize Patrick and Myers were going to earn massive contracts this season.

If you can't root for the team when we are 0-0 and have some optimism I'm afaraid there is no hope for you. It's not like we have some crap roster, we have apretty good mix of top end talent and depth players, better goaltending, and potenitally a very steady d-core. Show some confidence.

It is going to be highly disappointing if they are a bubble team this year. Yeah, they were terrible last year, but everything that could go wrong, went wrong. They had mostly the same roster as the 2017-2018 season. If after adding Hayes and the defensemen, a full year of Hart and expecting a bounce back year from Provorov, if this team isn't better than the 2017-2018 team it will be time to blow up the core.

The roster is marginally better if that. Is it 8 wins better? I do not think we've seen that so far this preseason. Hart is going to be tested early and often this year.

Re: “SHOOT!!”

AV is trying to get some of the guys off of their ‘pass first’ mentality.

Like Dorny always said, “you can’t go wrong putting the puck on the net.”

Ghost, nor any of the other players hear the fans yelling shoot, or anything else for that matter, they are too focused on playing. But the fans yelling shoot is pretty annoying for the educated spectator to listen to.

- LittleBallofHate

So stop yelling it

I dunno if I have confidence, but I certainly am excited. Farabee and Myers will be back sooner than later, and if Frost gets in there sometime this season, that’ll be fun.

Positive progression out of Sanheim and Provy, a rebound year for Ghost, Hayes showing us defense out of our forward crew, and this should be a good ride.

Plus, y’know, that Hart guy. He’s a thing.

I really want to. I do.

And people may discount preseason as being preseason, and normally I would agree. But this is/was supposed to be different in many ways because of the new coaches, new system, new management. I felt this team needed to start playing for REAL before the regular season started and they really didn't. I saw the same crap I've seen for many seasons now.

So forgive me if I am not that enthusiastic about what I've seen so far and don"t really have any confidence that come Friday they just get it all together and flip that switch. The switch needed to be flipped two weeks ago IMO.

Now I am not going to turn in to a team hater like some in here. I still love this team and want them to do well. But its hard giving them the benefit of the doubt any more.

Its time to put up or shut up.

What's Matt Walker up to?

Also, pretty sure our 1st d pairing could benefit from Pronger's stare.

For sure time to do it, and the preseason was not exactly encouraging but we have a lot of new faces and a new coaching staff, it might take 10-15 games to really start clicking. Not that i'm expecting them to stumble out of the gate but I wouldn't be too quick to judge early on.

Honestly, a slow start to the season wouldn't surprise me unfortunately. It can't be too extended but I think the coaching staff needs some time to get them used to the way they expect them to play.
