Dear benevolent, good-looking Hockeybuzz refs:
Forgive me for flagging my own post, but it seemed cheaper than renting a giant spotlight to send out the batbuzz signal:
Can I please ask that a referee lock the Official 2019-20 Hockeybuzz Leafs Prediction Thread at 7:05 pm tonight?
https://www.hockeybuzz.co...p?thread_id=162083&page=1
Please, please, please DO NOT DELETE THE THREAD.
Just lock it so that our fearless predictions will be forever locked in time, meaning I can't go back and change my prediction that Jason Spezza wins the Selke.
Thanks in advance!
Can I ask that a few others hit the flag button on this post to grab a ref's attention.
Hugs and kisses. |

Bottom line - the way Spezza performed at camp, he doesn't deserve to be dressed tonight. He didn't earn jack poop. He played like crap. He was told early on that he was going to have to earn his spot. He didn't earn his spot, but he's on the roster with a chance to pick up his game and show that he belongs here.
What's that newer axiom? "This isn't the Try Hard League, this is the Get It Done league"?
Spezza hasn't done either in a Toronto jersey. Hopefully the message has been received. - Monkeypunk
He did enough to play Friday against Columbus though. Gotcha. What did Nick Shore do?
I posted earlier about showing respect for a veteran that has played a lot of years and games in the NHL - you can pretend that doesn't count all you want, or that there isn't a "code" in the NHL...but that doesn't make you right. |

Difference of opinion here.
You go by "the code" - and I respect that.
My personal feeling is I don't give a frank what he did with other clubs - any respect he is given needs to be earned wearing a blue and white sweater. |

Yeah, he did do enough to earn a spot against Columbus. He has 16 years in the league which is enough to learn from being benched because you didn't put in an effort. If he doesn't show up against Columbus on Friday, he can expect to find his gear in a bag more often. They are sending him a message.
This isn't the 2000's country club. Guys don't come here to retire or rest on their laurels.
Shore put in more of an effort than Spezza in training camp, and deserves the honour of starting on Opening Night in my opinion.
I think that's what this is about. You reward your players for their effort. |

Will it ever be over? Whomever is named will be debated. Fire Babcock, fire Dubas, division, Spezza, Captain Marincin is bad with the media etc. |

Some players in the NHL have played for 7 or 8 teams, do they always get a free pass for game 1?
I totally agree with you |

This is 100% accurate.
If Spezza had played 1,000+ games and 15 years for the Leafs, yeah, maybe they make some special consideration.
But even if he was hypothetically a veteran of the club, the club always comes before the individual player. If it's better for the team that he sits, he sits. |
