I hope Justin Braun does well, because his signing is the reason Myers was sent down. I just don't get why this organization is so reluctant to play the younger players. More seasoning! - backfire
Andy Welinski's injury is the reason Myers isn't on the opening roster. On INR, the Flyers have his $750K cap hit on their cap, which means that Myers would put the team over the cap even though he's making the NHL minimum this year. |

I don't know if I'd call a 25 year old and a 26 year old "young" players. - jmatchett383
I agree. Some of the guys are on the back half of there 20's. Let's call them veterans. Still on the right side of 30. |

It's not a reluctance to play younger players.... It's the amount of younger players. You can't win with all younger players - they are inherently inconsistent. It's not negative for an organization to have two old guys (Nisky, Braun), and the rest younger guy that are gaining their experience. They have seven guys from the 2012 draft through 2015 draft, almost one a year. Ghost 12, Hagg 13, Sanheim 14, Prov 15, Morin 15, and Myers (not drafted but age-wise... 15). Too send one guy down is not a problem or a reluctance to play youth. He'll get more play time (aka Seasoning) in the AHL, and will be called up soon enough. |

I don't think Myers has anything left to gain in the AHL, but it's preferable to be on the Phantoms top pair again for a while to not being in the Flyers' starting six. However, I strong suspect that the No. 6 spot is going to remain a running battle for awhile until someone runs with it -- and Myers is the most capable of the three of doing it.

Bill, do you think the Flyers will rotate Morin/Hagg for a short period or until Myers is brought back up? It's just a tough situation for Morin. Not sure how he will get better if he doesn't play. |

I know. Lindblom, Konecny, Laughton, Twarynski, Bunnaman, Provorov, Haag, Sanheim, Ghost and Hart are all so old. Add Morin to that list and you have 12 players of the 23 man roster that would be considered young players. Keep in mind NoPa, Myers and Farabee will see time with the team this year. If only they played the "young" guys. - mickel25
Myers and Patrick might well be playing in this game if not for the injuries to Welinski and (of course) Patrick. |

My head canon is that Hagg is being showcased for a trade. |

Not sure why we just don't LTIR Patrick already and keep Farabee on the team |

Because they don't want to keep Patrick out longer than needed if he gets back to 100% for one. |

I'm not jazzed about our line-up. Don't know how I let myself get excited about the possibility of 4 strong lines. Granted, only Patrick and Farabee are missing but Patty's injury really throws lines 3 and 4 out of whack.
JvR, 30 goal scorer, with Laughton and Twarynski? That could be JvR, Patty, Farabee.
4th line would be Raffl, Laughton, Pitlick/Twarynski. Just a much stronger line-up.
Here's hoping Hayes develops chemistry with Jake and G. Hart comes out of the gate stopping everything and our d is much improved (as hoped/expected). |

Exactly - also at the expense of having a healthy Farabee on the team |

I gotta say that I think NAK would be a better option at 3RW than Twarynski. He's much more of a scorer and play driver at the AHL level. And the right side is his natural position.
Carson is bigger and a stronger forechecker, but that's more of a 4th line role. Which is where I expected him to start out for the Flyers. |

I know this is beating a dead horse but what could have been if the flyers brass would have listened to Clarke and drafted Jagr instead of Ricci! Definitely would have helped the Flyers stay closer to the Pens when Jagr was there if nothing else! |

For sure and we would have had Forsberg in his prime! |

Instead, they should have taken Brind'Amour -- whom Quebec asked for repeatedly -- off their untouchable list, and included Butsayev instead of the compromise component of Ricci & Forsberg (Forsberg was a prerequisite if Quebec was to back off the insistence on Brind'Amour and accept Ricci instead).
In our fantasy redo of history, let's say the Flyers take Jagr instead of Ricci, still do the Lindros trade (but with Brind'Amour and Butsayev in the package), and still did the Recchi trade to Montreal in '95 for Desjardins, Recchi and Dionne.
The top six up front:
LeClair - Lindros - Jagr
??? -- Forsberg - Renberg

I don’t k ow how I feel about that 3rd line. JVR a 25-30 goal scorer with Laughton and Twarynski? That has checking line feel to it. |

What do the Flyers have to do cap wise to get Stewart signed to a contract? I like what I heard from the GM regarding his play. Sounds like a nice piece to add to the team. |

a guy like frost would fit absolutely perfectly next to Laughts and JVR on that 3rd line, in my humble opinion |
