Today @ 5:27 PM ET
I will have more thoughts later but Hawks didn't look good.
This lineup could realistically have a different (and improved) look for game 2.
Murphy and de Haan likely will be the 2nd pairing.
Dach is getting closer.
Lehner SHOULDstart (not saying today was on Crawford but could see Lehner going next game). - Tyler Cameron

A lot of nice saves - without him, Flyers might have scored 8 or 9.
But had he made the saves he usually makes, they might have had only 2 or 1. - StLBravesFan
You gotta admit, that 2nd goal by Konecny was a beaut.
Good game today, fellas. Prague was entertained. Best of luck out West |

8 or 9? Sorry but most NHL goalies make all the same saves Crow did in the game. He had a bad game. He was too deep in his net on two of the goals. The wrap around was horrible. Team stunk, including Crow. |

Keep in mind, there is a ton of new faces and they haven’t played together much. They’ll need time to gel. R-E-L-A-X fellas. One Goal not One Game. - Assman22
Really, enough with the excuses. JC had 3/4 of a season, plus the much desired ‘training camp’. Stan improved the roster.
Last year’s team didn’t have the talent to make the playoffs, this one does.
The wizard of Mora and Gustafsson need to be shipped out at the 1st opportunity. Both are overwhelmed by the NHL game. Put Marc Crawford in charge, and this club makes the playoffs.
BTW, the Hawks finally out hit an opponent. |

i still think Kane and Toews need to be split - their games are just not compatible - glennjpawlak22
Yes, because of Kane’s suspect defense, he puts more responsibility on 19. |

per usual outhitting means outchasing the puck which also means they didn;t have it much...

The team needs more face punchers if they want to win. |

I’d argue that the talent is there, and there are some guys in Rockford that can help later this season (Entwistle).

I'm gonna give the whole thing 20-30 games. Ton of new players to gel together. It will take a bit. Sorry if that's an excuse, but it seems realistic to me. |

Stop yourself. We should crown TB right now as they are obviously the best team in the league and we don't need to play any more games!! |

Seabs and Maata looked solid.
Remember when Saad was a 1st line impact player? Good times!
Keith looks 36.
Adding Murphy, DeHaan and Dach and they are battling for Wild Card.
Wrap around goal was bad.
Strome quiet.
Gilbert and Kookoo..oof. |

Devils taking the Jets to the wood shed. Fun to watch teams that attack the net. And I got a huge laugh at the comment that Crawford would be running the team by January. Lets admit it. This team looked bad in the pre season. The same No-D style and what looked like a lot of no desire out there. I will chalk today up to travel fatigue and alot of new faces in the line up. Lets hope there is a schit ton more energy and get after it for game 2. |

I thought Gilbert played better as the game went on.
Seabrook is painfully slow, but managed to do ok with guile and smarts.
Crow made a lot of big saves, but man goal 4 was ugly.
Forget it and move on.

Yes on Gilbert. Had some really nice plays as the game went on. Had a nice hip check that took a Flyer off the puck. Old school stuff. |

Yep and there was one shift in the third where the Hawks dominated possession with him on the ice and he looked very comfortable and smooth working in the offensive zone. He's not a future top pairing guy, but has the look of a terrific 4/5 type. |

I'd argue it's only been one game and 2 NHL defenseman were injured.
Let's slow our roll and see what this team looks like at full strength
No one understands JCs system yet they are quick to replace him.
Remember when the Hawks opened the season 10-1 over the Penguins? |

Honestly once all the dman are healthy Koekkoek can go, and man i hope Boqvist is a quick learner because Gusto (frank)ing sucks and should be played in specific limited situations until a trade is made.

Sucks? I saw him at least twice completely give up on the puck and just let a Flyers forward take it. He’s terrified to absorb a hit or take any kind of physical punishment. You can’t be an legit NHL dmen unless you’re willing to take a hit to make a play. He just bails out. |

I’m watching the game now...but heading into the game I never would have guessed that of all the D-men playing in the game, that Gustafson would play the most even strength minutes. I understand the Hawks were playing from behind... but having Gustafson leading in ice time for Hawks isn’t a winning formula imo.
Murphy & DeHaan will bring veteran stability once they’re back.
Nylander definitely has the offensive skills and nhl shot. I also agree with others of seeing Kubalik on 2nd line. Although Debrincat can snipe, he’s also a great puck handler and distributor, similar to Kane. He can set Kubalik up with his one timer like Kane/Panarin....and Kubalik also can clear space with his 6’3” frame. Surprisingly he tied for hits on the Hawks with 4.
I believe Dach centering Saad & Shaw would make a great checking line who could cycle the puck down low with their wall presence....yet good hands around the net.
It’s only 1 game, and I’m very optimistic that the Hawks can turn it around this season, but I really hope Gustafson doesn’t keep getting top minutes of our “defensemen”....since defense seems to be his deficiency. Who knows, maybe Stanbo is increasing his trade value at the deadline...when Boquist gets recalled. |
