I have seen Trouba and Byfuglien also make that play many times. For some reason, Jets fans were always harder on Myers than the other two. And, if you are right about the big dog coming back, I am sure we will see that same play many more times and this time it will be in a Jets jersey.

Believe Freidman said on HNIC last night that it would quite a long time before Buff comes back if he does. And how many games would we get out of him anyways - at his age and shape - 40? 50?

I'm actually hoping now that Buff announces retirement, even though we could use him badly. Maybe time to move on?

My "guess" is that he doesn't return at all, but who knows, except the Jets brass?

See Broissoit is starting today - but no Dahlstrom or Gustafsson. I'm guessing the letter two must just have been taken to give them a tour of the eastern United States. Maybe they haven't seen that part of the country before?

They are not being held out due to the superb play of Bitetto and Letestu!

Just what the Jets need. Having the starter who is signed for the next 4 years at 6 million lose his job to the back-up who is a ufa when the season ends.

I think it's time to move on. As I always say, defense is an ovverarted position.

On what? NHL19?

And, furthermore who cares? None of those guys play for the Jets anymore.

More importantly though, what does Ehlers have to do to get time on the top power play unit? I want to see how he does in Laine's spot!

Not exactly sure how you can keep saying defense is an over-rated position. We'll
see how the Jets make out unless they upgrade - and soon.

And don't they always say, in forming a competitive team, "You build from the back-end out?" Said a few years ago, but still true IMO.

The Jets should put Poolman with Morrissey and keep Heinola with Pionk together and if Maurice insists on having Kulikov, for his veteran presence and Bietto, who's good in the room in the lineup he should pair them together and put them on the ice for 8 min at most. Also Gustafsson should replace useless Letestu. The Jets should win this game if they get some timely saves.
- islansjet

On to the backup plan I guess, lol.

The jets defense is making a pretty average group of isles forwards look like allstars

I’ve always been a big Poolman fan and wanted him on the Jets!!! On the third pair!!!!

This season he has arguably been our best D, I’m giving him the nod for not only his play but doing while carrying Bietto

This is not good

Well Maurice doesn't see what you do Ross Poolman hasn't cracked 15 mins yet and Maurice logic will be to bench him when they call up Niku

Like I said in my post when the team was down 4 zip to the Devils, our D, or some of our D is horrifying.

No advance stats needed, team eye test will be sufficient to support my statement.

I am going to come out and say it. All our high priced wingers are pathetic. Like none can score if Scheifele is not on their line.

This team that has so many"high skilled" forwards does very little in the goal scoring department. Watching the game last night, there was no sustained pressure in the offensive end.

I, plus many others here, love Andrew Copp - but do you think the Jets might be showcasing him?

Might Copp+, or Roslovic+ (heaven forbid) fetch is a pretty decent d-man?

Interesting suggestion thrown out there on post-game show - might the Jets try to move a goalie (Helle I assume) for a d-man? I'm thinking Columbus is a possibility.

Letestu and Bitetto to the Moose! (hopefully)

This is a blue line issue - not a winger issue (our centers all got outplayed yesterday). The defense did not have the skill to separate attackers from the puck and make an outlet pass. Some can make the pass, some can separate the player - none showed they can do both. Result is that Isles carried the play.

When Heinola's 9 games are up and Niku is back I would like to see the Jets dress 13 forwards (likely Bitetto draws out). Likely Ehlers to drop back and is allowed to move the puck out. Not ideal but it provides a different dynamic and adds skill on the ice.

Definitely a blue line issue. I am trying to take the glass half full approach line of thinking and attribute the disorganized mess that the D are playing as just needing some early season adjustments to a group that is not yet familiarized to the systems that Maurice employs. However, who am I kidding. This is borderline AHL defense with no depth for injuries such as we just saw from Morrissey. There is literally zero chance of making the playoffs with this current defense. Something needs to be done.

I really have to criticize Buff a lot for this in that out of respect for Chevy he needed to give the Jets more of a heads up this summer so Chevy could make a move or two or sign one of our UFA'S or Gardner or Barrie or Faulk. He didn't play in his own summer league and was not in shape so he has known this for some time.

It's not really that enjoyable watching the Jets in their current state.

This is more of a management issue. Where are all the drafted and developed defensemen? Its been 9 years. You would think the Jets would have at least developed more than just Trouba and Morrissey!

This whole idea that Byfuglien is going to save the Jets defense has got to stop as well. The man is turning 35 years old. He's got bad ankles and missed significant time due to having a concussion. The man has skated once with his teammates since last April. He did not participate in Da Beauty League and looks like he's gained 30 lbs. No one is really sure how much he skated all off-season.

Technically due to being suspended, he cannot train with Jets training staff. I am not even sure that he is training at all, as all pictures on social media have him eating out and participating in fishing derby's.

Last year William Nylander sat out until December and he was training the entire time. It took him at least 20 games to get up to game speed. Not saying that it would take Byfuglien that long; I don't see it taking less. It would be nice if he just announced he was retiring so we can all move on already!

You don't suppose do you, that Morrissey's injury goes back to the injury he had last season, do you? If it does, then we are in worse trouble than we think. It always seems that a Jets d-man injury is 6 weeks or whatever.
Morrissey wasn't the same late last season upon return, and he kind of sputtered during the exhibition season, didn't he? Please, no!

As well, can someone fill me in - how long can Buff go on as is - suspended but eligible to return. Surely this can't go on the rest of his contract, can it? Is there a deadline? Help!

If this is the case, the Jets may have deeper issues, such as having a poor training staff, or poor team doctors. I remember Lindros suing the Flyers for messing up his career for bringing him back too soon from injuries.

As for the second question. I believe that the Jets can terminate his contract for breaching it after sometime. This would suck as the Jets could not technically recoup anything for him, if they were to trade him.

some truth mixed in with info that needs souce to back it up.
True - he is one player who will not fix everything alone, he is aging and less is to be expected of him. One ankle injured last year, one confirmed concussion from an errant stick. Hasn't skated publically.
Speculation - gained weight needs source. I haven't seen confirmation of this though it could be.
Needing context - eating out, fishing and training for professional hockey are not mutually exclusive.
