Our lines tonight from Corey Masisak:

Hall-Hischier-Palms
Coleman-Zajac-Simmonds
Wood-Hughes-Bratt
Gusev-Zacha-Boqvist

- vlongo4419

I still don't think of this as much as "line 3 is better/will see more ice than line 4". It's just combos.
Kind of dumb to put one of our smarter players that needs to develop to the NHL... with our dumbest winger on one side, and an inexperienced and diminutive winger on the other.

Gusev-Zacha-Boqvist will be interesting and hopefully fun to watch.

That third line could be rough defensively, but we'll see. Don't want to overreact too much to one game.

I kinda like the idea of putting Hughes with Hall and Palms, the skill would be there to score but Hall and Palmieri are responsible enough defensively to help Hughes. Then put Nico with Gusev to help there. In my ideal world right now I'd go

Hall - Hughes - Palmieri
Gusev - Hischier - Bratt
Coleman - Zajac - Simmonds
Wood - Zacha - Boqvist

Feel like that's a nice balance of scoring potential and defensive responsibility.

Ironically, I though Hayden was better then Wood.

but did Hayden generate multiple quality scoring chances that he did nothing with while doing nothing defensively besides a dumb penalty??? I don't think so!

I'm sure Hynes will get there eventually. Wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. I think he knows how much adjusting Hughes needs, before even thinking about putting him on a line who's sole purpose is to get us goals while likely facing top 2 lines from the other team. We need that top line to produce and not give the puck away. Hughes needs time to learn this game, which looked to be above his head half the time last night.

Yeah Hynes said pretty much exactly the same thing, that there is no 4th line. Definitely excited to see that line though too. Hoping for a big bounce back game

hoping for a lot from the Zacha line, but it seems like an odd combo. Zacha is very good defensively but you don't want to put those other guys out in defensive zone starts for sure.

It seems like Hynes is just going to put Hughes out against weak competition all night to let him adjust.

I agree. I hope it doesn’t work for my sake, but it looks quite balanced.

Don’t do what the Flyers did with Couturier and bury that kid with talentless players. It hampered his early career. We saw what happened when he finally got a shot with decent bodies around him. Maybe Zacha hasn’t deserved that opportunity yet, but he should get a chance to show what he’s got. Boqvist would be a nice start. For both of them, really. But eventually you gotta give Zacha some real threats around him.

Yeah hopefully he's able to take advantage of it. Hynes actually gave Hughes and Gusev a great matchup against the Jets bottom pairing most of the night and they didnt fair well at all. When matched up against that pairing they were out-attempted 10-1 and out-chanced 5-0. I think he'll start to get going but its gonna take some time for him to adjust

I don’t think it’s just the Jersey but they look good. Butcher doesn’t look good defensively. Bit of a weak call on the penalty but he was struggling.

Entire team has started pretty flat. Let's see if we can just get out of the period.

Trying to watch this game. Two exciting young teams. But listening to Steve Cangialosi is worse than listening to my neighbors car alarm all night

Eh it could have gone either way. If they’re calling that they should have called the hook on Severson in front of the net. I’m more tired of this team taking dumb penalties

I think both of the penalties have been really soft. But I guess start of the season they try to clamp down on it a lot.

Now that should have been a hook. It was right on his hands

Hughes just floats out there. Doesn't really understand defensive assignments yet.

Has Severson been on the ice for every goal against in both games so far?
