Guy Boucher is the kind of stop gap coach that comes in rattles things up and has success, and then a season or two late wears out his welcome. I just hope if we can Hynes we don’t wait too long like we did with MacLean.

The team got outworked and out coached. Nothing positive other than no injuries. Hopefully this sends a message to the group and let’s them know they’re not as good as they think and they show up against the Flyers.

I though Boqvist looked good. Things just went bad when he passed because Wood stinks. He also passed to Mueller in the offensive zone which is a no no.

I think Mueller needs to be separated from everyone.

GM and Ownership got very involved this season possibly most Ive seen as a Devils fan in any off season I can remember...I have a hard time picturing they are gonna let Hynes run this into the ground right away...Time for the question already folks..Whos our next coach?

meh. I still look at the goalie change and Blackwood coming in ice cold as the reason we lost that game. Tonight was a back to back plus travel to Buffalo for their home opener. Not that this excuses the poor everything, but it plays a role.

lots of small inexperienced players.. making half of our lines not all that difficult to defend against, and making our ability to defend laughable.

We'll get better as they learn how to NHL. If they don't learn in a month then I'm concerned. The team should tighten up. 5 total brand new faces, PK, Simmonds, Gusev, Boqvist, Hughes. 3 of them have never seen the NHL. So you have 3 inexperienced chickens with their heads cut off spread through 2 lines. The Hischier and Zajac lines aren't great either, but they at least look more established in the neutral zone and less lost. Hughes really is terrible right now in every zone besides the offensive.. and even that isn't great. Growing pains.
Boqvist didn't look all that bad tonight really. Put someone competent on the LW with Zacha and Boqvist.

Gusev-Zacha-Bratt
Coleman-Zajac-Simmonds (I can't believe how much I want to rely on this line)
Wood-Hughes-Boqvist

I know we're leaving that 4th line to get crushed on defense, but this at least gives us 3 trustworthy lines instead of just 2..

For the time being, it may be a good idea to simply swap Zajac and Hughes. Put more responsible and experienced Coleman and Simmonds with Hughes to cover his craziness defensively, while giving Zajac some offensive weapons to work with as he makes sure we don't get owned going the other way..

2nd NHL game in a back to back situation on the road team's home opener.. with 3 rookies and 5 total new players learning how to hockey together..

I don't think the seat should be hot. It's not ice cold, but not hot. Give it 10 games and then we can start with warming the seat.

Are the Devils rebuilding?

The Sabres made the Devils look like an AHL team. I don’t see many Devils games but holy crow did they get smoked tonight. Also, Subban is so slow...dude is a dinosaur.

Is it me or was there more effort last year when everyone was injured than there has been since? It is like they felt the added skill and talent would just give them wins without the effort

the Devils have the opportunity to corner the market at the trading deadline this season like the Rangers have had last couple of years

Vatanen, Hall and Simmonds, that's a pretty nice trio to gain some serious assets

I just don't see Taylor Hall passing up the opportunity to be a UFA July 1st
