Stan would pack Gus' bags himself today and make that trade before he gets hurt. IMO value nowhere close to that. If Boquist gets called up simply to make a change it's Gus who's out. - rpeters01
In a sense, you are right. At this moment in time, Gus's value is a bit lower simply due to the fact that the year is so young and several teams are just trying to see where they are at. If Gus is on track for another 60 points (and has about 10 goals) at the trade deadline, he could easily garner a 1st. Remember, we've received a 1st and a prospect for Hartman.... Ryan Hartman. |

After a strong start to the season, the Sabres defense tandem of Marco Scandella (17.4 CF%, 2.0 xGF%) and Henri Jokiharju (18.2 CF%, 8.3 xGF%) got walloped by Columbus. |

Hartman for Ejdsell and what ended up turning out to be Beaudin and Kurashev. Ejdsell is the throw away but the other two are top prospects.
Beaudin and Kurashev have less than 10 pro games under their belt and haven’t played in the NHL yet either but I like their chances. |

Eh, it's one game and the Sabers only put 18 shots on net. Not to mention, they still got the OTL. Stats are great... when they have context to explain them. I get why people want to track this, but I think it's just going to be tiring. There were reasons on both sides for the move. |

A first rounder and or NHL regular for a rental AHL Defense man? Umm stop yourself! - rpeters01
If Bowman plays his cards right and his timing is good, then that type of return is possible. But there are many other factors at play that could diminish the return instead.
I will trust Bowman to make an appropriate move with at least a fair return for Gustafsson, even if that isn't a 1st rounder and/or high-potential prospect. |

If the Hawks are in contention for a playoff spot at the trade deadline and Gus is having another good season offensively, I suspect Bowman will keep him and treat him as his own rental and deal with signing him or trading his rights after the season ends. One would have to think there is pressure to make the playoffs this year from Rocky/McD and expecting Boqvist as a 19 yo. rookie to be some kind of savior on the back end seems like a stretch to me...

WellChunk you are right sgain. I advocate ttading Gus at thevtradr deadline; we csn hope that is the best strategy. Some folks hold out hooe that zgus eill not mske thede bone hesf blunders and pay attrntion yo playing drfrnsr. He might be better than you think but then again do not hold your breath thinking it happens. And unless all veterans buy into the system and Colliton strikes fear by sitting them or certain offensive minded "type"Nylander and Perlini)find the press box more than the ice, one just had to see this system work. Provevit. With this bunch. If it works then Gus could have bettet plus minus. There are just too many red flags.to think Collito"s system will work as well as he wants.
The red flags are all the forwards buying in aforementioned but also finding the right partner for Keith. Injured dmen returning and not held back by previous injury.
If you go onnyje prrmusevthat Hartman brought a #1, don"t count on it. Hartmsn worked thatbyear gor a plsn that GM constructed. I do not believe the majority of GM would of traded a #1 for him.
But a hot goal scoring streak could really help teams just looking to add a piece to the equation. Teams try to insert puck movers on drfense in playoff hockey.

Good post, Darth. I know Taylor has been hammering away at this point as well, i.e. Keith would be better served with a partner who played more of a stay-at-home game.
Keith has always been described as a rover so he's constantly attacking but has the defensive acumen and agility to retreat back if the ice tilts the other way. In their prime, Seabrook as his long-term partner allowed him to thrive with this style.
Now that they're both older and not compatible from that stand point yet Keith still likes to rove, a defensive RD who can skate well would be an ideal partner. But as others pointed out, nobody on the team fits the bill.
Murphy? Maybe but he could be best with de Haan as his partner. - AEL_Fox
I think you nailed it on the head. There is no good partner on the Hawks for Gus (and maybe not even a good partner for Gus in the NHL.) So he may be harder to move and the return may be less than we expect for a 60 point scoring dman. |

So you think that the GM's around the NHL are not capable of seeing what every poster on this board is seeing. That Gus is a great offensive player and power play QB, but he has no interest in playing D or maybe no understanding of playing D.
AND Gus is a rental for the remainder of the season.
I think people on this board will be highly disappointed in how the Gus saga turns out. |

The Hartman trade is hard to explain from the Predators side. They thought Hartman was being held back by Q, like Strome was being held back in Arizona. Turns out they were very wrong.
I hope you they get that kind of return for Gus.

No, I think other GMs would say exactly what we are saying. Play him on the PP, and give him 3rd pairing minutes 5v5, preferably with a stay-at-home dman.
ETA: However, I do think they would see a 60 point player from the back end, and give up a 1st. Karlsson isn't the best defender (especially after his Achilles injury), but SJ gave up a lot to get him, and paid him a fortune to stay. I know Gus isn't in EK's league when it comes to defense, but I'm not advocating for getting what SJ gave up. I'm simply saying he's worth pick 20-31. |

I still think Dach should go back to Jr. He needs to fill out a bit more .Boqvist went back and seem to help him . - oldduffman
To be fair, Boqvist was playing pro leagues before being drafted to Juniors. So he was already above and beyond the Junior level. |
