Because Buff may never play again. Risto is still playing 20+ mins here. Risto would cost an actual roster player.
Little and 2nd for Risto.
Or a couple bodies and a conditional pick for Buff's rights - jcragcrumple

And, he fired Yeo around mid November if I remember correctly, but he wasn't in tanking mode in week one. - CharlieDog
How is staying pat not tanking?
My first post was the Jets shouldn't be making any moves, and you essentially agreed with me by saying Armstrong didn't make any player personnel moves.

Hey CharlieDog, I will give you the classic Cheveldayoff speech that he delivers every year at the draft and after the trade deadline.
Reporter: Hey Chevy, you did not make any moves. Was there talk of making any?
Cheveldayoff: Well we had a few conversations about some possibilities. You know we are a draft and develop franchise and sometimes the cost of doing business is too high. We had conversations discussing a few scenarios and pieces but eventually decided that we did not want to pay the asking price that was being asked. We are really happy with the direction of this franchise and will keep talking to other teams as time moves forward. -end-
I think I nailed Cheveldayoff's classic comments down pat. I have been hearing them for the last 9 years. - TheUltimateJet
Ultimate, you are a learned hockey buff that typically does the homework, but unfortunately mon ami, you are not even close.
Had you nailed it, you would have began every other sentence with “Again”.
Next time Chevy speaks publicly, Watch him and take note that Chevy begins his responses with “Again” usually on every other response. |

I correctly predicted the Jets would lose at least two games this year.
I find it interesting watching the new players play especially by throwing them in to get experience/minutes and seeing who can do what. Sink or swim so to speak. So often PoMo is criticized for not playing the youth. Now he has no choice. Lets see what Poolman, Niku, Pionk, Heinola can do. What if they happen to come together as a group and succeed?
Repairing the D will be a process as more than three need to be replaced. This will take time so panicking to make a trade for trades sake at this time is wrong.
I think Buff's departure is related to thoughts of retirement. It's difficult for me to believe that it relates to more controversial reasons that today's media would not find out somehow. - justsaying
of these 4 only Heinola is really young and by most accounts carries himself beyond his years.
Poolman is a mature player who is still improving. He made it through college, won championships there, impressed in a short opportunity with the Jets, followed up with a good year in the AHL and should soon settle in to be a good 3rd pair D.
Pionk still needs to win over the fans as apparently he has done for Jets scouting. Projecting to be a 2nd pair D on the strength of his puck moving and skating with PP time
Niku should deliver similar to Pionk. They have given him time to put a little more meat on his bones and to settle into the NHL speed and systems over his development with the Jets and Moose. He has been protected from media scrutiny and I am sure he is ready to be a difference maker for the Jets.
Morrissey/Beulieu is going to be OK
I agree that 3 D need to be replaced but in many ways they already are replaced. They will need some time to gel and make the systems into muscle memory. One trade of a prospect, pick and roster player should land a strong player at the deadline, Buff would add just as much or more. |

Agree with most of what you are saying.
But would send Heinola, due to lack of size and experience against big men (afraid of injury) back to Finland for one more year.
As well, if the Jets don't trade UNTIL the deadline, they will be dumping players and adding draft choices, IMO. We need to upgrade the D - now! Or are we landing a strong player for the following year?

Buff decision aside, I believe Chevy needs to make a trade for a serviceable D with a reasonable contract. Anyone but that (frank)ing Ristolinen. We realize that you hate making trades and that player will have a cost, but fans will understand it Chevy.
Do something for a change. |

Again, we are a draft and develop team ....... and we have had some discussions and as a result, ........we have few balls in the air. |

Ehlers can officially take himself off of the pathetic list. First high paid winger to score a goal without Scheifele being on the ice. |

I just want to congratulate Laine on his 4th assist on the year. He didn't get 4 assists until december 9 last year. |

I actually think that Ristolainen would do great in Winnipeg. Lots of Fins here and with the aviator jerseys, he will think he's playing for his home country.
Another player I would like to see here is Bowey. Morrissey and him made an excellent d pairing in Junior and I am curious to see if they can do the same in the big leagues. |

From the outside, it looks like Gun shy Chevy is in a holding pattern. I’m not a fan of this approach. |

I can see your Ritso reasoning. I’ve seen a lot of him and don’t like him.
I like the Bowey suggestion. I thought he would have had a bigger impact by now. Thought he was very good at the WJC.

Mr. Ate Me, the thing that about Chevy is that no other GM takes his name so literally. I know a big part of his name says take the day off, but 9 years of consistently taking the day off, is getting quite cumbersome. |

Super effort by 100% of the team. You called it JetsNation!
Shows what they are capable of.
You know Heinola IS making it a very difficult decision for the Jets. Patrik is playing the best hockey of his career because, as the coach said post-game, he is more engaged. If he keeps it up, big year.
Besides thought Scheifele, Roslovic, Pionk, Poolman, Niku, Lowry and, of course, Helle, had very good games. But, like I said, 100% team effort.
Wonder if anyone is still wanting to "tar and feather" Maurice and Chevaldayoff? |

Just heard on the big show that Buf is registered for every fishing derby from now till freeze up.
Doesn’t appear that he is in hockey mode or even conditioning mode as he is fishing every day.

Despite Morrissey not playing I had a gut feeling on that one. Pitts D is quite porous. Niku played great and I'm starting to believe that at this point Heinola might as well stay. Hes been better than most of our D . Pionk has been a pleasant suprise.

I’ve been ok with the thought of trading Roslovic to shore up our D if Buff doesn’t return but...
Roslovic has shown improvement in the Center spot thus far, I still don’t think he’s ready for 2nd line Center yet but for the first time in a while I think he maybe by next year. We all know how hard it is to find a 2c so maybe trading away a future one isn’t great.
I think if a trade has to happen we should see what Connor would fetch? I’d do Sanheim or Dobson for Connor (young for young)
But the best option is still a third for Honka and we keep all our young forwards |
|
|
|
Why would we want Honka.....another undersized d-man ? |

Definitely don't agree at all on trading Connor! He's a keeper.
However do agree on your assessment of Roslovic. One minute I'm thinking trade him, next minute I think like you do, maybe the 2C that we covet. Looked real good last night. Kind of wish they would throw him at 2C right now - see what happens.
Honka is not on my wish list - not sure he is any better than 5 of the 6 d-men we dressed last night. |

If he is skilled, fast,
Moves the puck and all that means he allows less shots on are net and more on theirs why not?
Hey I’d love big physical fast and skilled all in one but I’ll take the better d no matter of size first |
