Definitely don't agree at all on trading Connor! He's a keeper.

However do agree on your assessment of Roslovic. One minute I'm thinking trade him, next minute I think like you do, maybe the 2C that we covet. Looked real good last night. Kind of wish they would throw him at 2C right now - see what happens.

Honka is not on my wish list - not sure he is any better than 5 of the 6 d-men we dressed last night.

- grahamzky

It’s not like I’m out here saying trade Connor, I’m just saying for the right piece (Dobson or sanheim) a young D who will be top 4 for the next 4-8 years on the Jets I see it as a wash and trading from a position of strength for weakness

Honka will be better than the following,
In my opinion;

Betetio
Dahlstrom
Kulikov
Beaulieu

And probably better than Pionk and Poolman but that would be closer

Despite Morrissey not playing I had a gut feeling on that one. Pitts D is quite porous. Niku played great and I'm starting to believe that at this point Heinola might as well stay. Hes been better than most of our D . Pionk has been a pleasant suprise.

Pionk is interesting. I have not formed an opinion yet as this is a new team for him and an adventurous defensive roster. But, he is quick, skilled and seems to be able to move the puck out quickly. There are a few times where you scratch your head and wonder why he made this or that play but there definitely is something there to work with and improve. He has skill and quickness and I am sure he is getting some teaching moments with the staff. But, I am cautiously optimistic that the staff can make him even better. Reserving judgment for now until I see a larger sample but trending positively.

Heinola, what do you say? 4 games, 1 G 2 A, plus 2. I am again cautiously optimistic, looking like a good future for this kid, and the trade is looking better all the time. Going to be a tough decision for PoMo and this is only game 4 of 9 and anything can happen in these last 5 games but, I will not be surprised in the least bit if he is here on game 10 if he continues playing like this.

TSN showed the games experience last nite, I am sure everyone saw that the Jets defence had, what was it, 359 overall NHL games played by their defensive roster while Pittsburgh defensive roster had something 2950 games?

I might be out a bit on the game numbers but it was very lopsided.

One thing for sure is that the Jets management has been reading HB and in particular Ultimate's posts that assert defense is overrated and that Pittsburgh has won cups with their crappy defense.

Super effort by 100% of the team. You called it JetsNation!

Shows what they are capable of.

You know Heinola IS making it a very difficult decision for the Jets. Patrik is playing the best hockey of his career because, as the coach said post-game, he is more engaged. If he keeps it up, big year.

Besides thought Scheifele, Roslovic, Pionk, Poolman, Niku, Lowry and, of course, Helle, had very good games. But, like I said, 100% team effort.

Wonder if anyone is still wanting to "tar and feather" Maurice and Chevaldayoff?

- grahamzky

Special mention on Scheifs disallowed goal. A perfect example of hockey poetry!

Yes Pitt a team with malkin and Crosby won two cups with no D,
St Luis and Washington on the other hand won the last two with very good D, when Chicago and LA won those cups their D to was very very good!!

I’ve been ok with the thought of trading Roslovic to shore up our D if Buff doesn’t return but...

Roslovic has shown improvement in the Center spot thus far, I still don’t think he’s ready for 2nd line Center yet but for the first time in a while I think he maybe by next year. We all know how hard it is to find a 2c so maybe trading away a future one isn’t great.

I think if a trade has to happen we should see what Connor would fetch? I’d do Sanheim or Dobson for Connor (young for young)

But the best option is still a third for Honka and we keep all our young forwards

- Ross77

Blasphemy Ross. I would never even entertain trading future superstar Connor and his cap-friendly contract. If word ever got out there that Chevy was shopping him it certainly wouldn't go over well in Connor's camp. Chevy would never do such as thing.

Jets just need to be patient. I like Honka but Dallas would be unlikely to trade him to a divisional opponent.

a significant change from yesterdays game was the defensive zone collapse. It looked more like a playoff-style, simplified defensive system that was content to let pittsburg shoot through traffic from the outside but (with exception of a blown assignment on Crosby goal) did not allow any passes through the slot.

Heinola is playing well enough to make a tough decision on game 10. at the very least it is not a wrong decision to let him finish the season with the Moose.

especially with a 2-2 record it is way too early to push the panic button and trade away talent like Connor, Ehlers, Laine, Roslovic, Copp, Lowry (did I miss anyone?). We will see defensive talent emerge and better opportunities for trades that improve the team will present themselves through the year.

Agreed - no f'n way you wanna trade away our top tier talent at this point ... I wanna let this play our for awhile - let's go to end of November before we start screwing with the roster ... I REALLY wanna see how we show up against some heavy playing Central (and West) teams first before I start concluding on "gaps" and trades or signings to address them

Wouldn't it be something if we're pleasantly surprised (?)

I also wanna see what's up with Byf ... they'll need a home stand (i.e. the upcoming 7 of the next 9 games this month) for him to decide ... he'll be sitting at home in front of the big-screen - beer in hand - watching his boys playing at the Arena ... if he doesn't get the itch to return then - it's over IMHO

Problem is he'll be tipping scales at 300 by that time !

So regarding Buff - do you know how long this can go on? Like he can't just stay on stay suspended or whatever for two years, can he?

Doesn't there have to be some point were he retires or goes on say, LTIR? And we get the extra cap space?

Who’s more important to the Jets, Morrisey or Connor?

If your answer is Morrisey than why not trade Connor for another Morrisey?

Ask me that last year and I would say Connor but this year with the sudden defensive problems I would say, Morrissey. That doesn't mean that we should trade away a cap-friendly future star for what we need. I'd rather just wait till the trade deadline or next year and pick up Hamonic or Barrie, or numerous other UFA or soon to be UFA's . No way I'd be trading Connor to get there. I don't consider that progress.

Jets won't trade a player who committed long term to them less than a month ago.

I see it very differently, I have Morrisey is much more valuable than Connor last year and this year and next year. To be clear!!! This is not me hating on Connor!! I like Connor but a young top 4 D are more important than Connor right now and in the future to the Jets.

Hamonic and Barrie will not be great signings next year as they will be starting to decline rapidly very soon and will also get over paid, like Myers.

Trading Connor now for a very similar player to morrisey like the two I mentioned is 100% the right move. It’s not about how great Connor is but what makes us a better team overall!!!

And again, I’m not saying trade him but you are saying you can’t trade away a future super star like I’m asking for not one back. I am asking for one back just at a position we need more than winger

If they do make a trade, it better be for a center.

Also, I am not sure what people are seeing in Lowry, it seems he's having a hard time carrying Bourque and Letestu.

One more note, it appears that Maurice after 3 seasons finally saw that Roslovic was drafted as a center. Roslovic has played great so far.

I am also curios to see if this years Laine is for real. He's done this in the past where he shows up for 15-20 games does well than disappears. I will hold off on my assessment of him until March.

Overall, I am glad that the Jets finally won in Pittsburgh.

It won't go on that long, Jets probably have an internal date on how long they wait for a decision, and if they don't get one they will void his contract.

Lowry is Doing his best with two older guys who have no business in the nhl. I have no idea why Maurice is doing this to him, I’d be livid if I was him. Shiefele would sink with these two guys!!!
