White players are never called Thugs. You used coded language. There's a racist connotation to that word, and you know it.

Maybe it's just me, but I would absolutely use the word thug for a white person, and I don't think there is any racist connotation to it whatsoever. As far as I'm concerned, thug and thug behaviour can be anyone, any race. If this has somehow taken on racist connotations, I think this must be a more recent thing, because growing up, I don't think it did at all. So this might be a generational thing.
I also don't really think Evander Kane is a thug though. He's tough as hell, but he doesn't really run around tossing punches at others. To me, Matthew Tkachuk is more of a thug.
A lot of his past behaviour makes me think he's a bit of a moron. Admittedly, I loved it when he punched out Matt Cooke though. That was awesome. He wasn't even a thug there though, Cooke made the bad decision to go after Kane.
EDIT - I think this is definitely a generational thing. I read this:
https://www.npr.org/2015/...ning-behind-the-word-thug
Which basically suggests that rap took the word, and started to give it a different meaning, first in the black community. And now it's changed. Which makes sense. Didn't Tupac have it tatooed across his stomach?
But, for those of us who grew up pre-2000, I don't think it would mean the same thing. Honestly, the first thing that comes to my mind, is a big dude going to local businesses collecting money for the mafia, or something like that, in the 60s.
