I think so too...and they did that last March when they were down 3 of the top 4 D and a few top 6 forwards...ended up going 10-3-3 that month. - MattStrat

True. Good point.
I think if he had a solid night last night, not necessarily lights out, but solid, they could of won...and the comment section of this blog would be much more palatable today haha. |

Rutherford needs to go. All he has done since Bots left is cost us draftpicks and money bringing in mostly useless plugs that he turns around and ships out a year later.
Hes a bumbling mess and has a huge ego that causes him to say dumb things like "I know why he didnt play last year and it has nothing to do with his on ice performance". Meanwhile hes shopping said player a year later for being a bum. How clueless can you be? - thickman1178
This exactly. Would that he’d stuck to the plan and ridden off into the sunset after three years...

Oh I agree, its a hard thing to overcome. But our losses wouldnt be nearly as bad if JR had a clue. He has literally had to undo half of his trades by giving away assets to get rid of horrible contracts he gave out. The guy has been a mess since he was allowed to drive the team solo. - thickman1178
But even if he undid Guds and JJ, how would that make these losses not as bad? How do you buffer losing five top-nine players?

I didn't mind the Brassard trade at the time. I liked it as I thought he would fit that 3C plus he wasn't a rental. I had no idea he had no backbone and was so sensitive.
I much rather have had Pearson still her than Guds. Especially with that awful contract. He was actually adequate last season but the first three games he looks like the player we all knew we were getting.
JJ goes without saying.
It's startling how the injuries are already pilling up. |

The Guds situation would have been much easier to digest if they didn’t have JJ. |

So wait wait wait.
If Rutherford is actively trying to undo a "mistake" that he made...does that therefore mean that RW approves of what Rutherford is doing?
If so, someone please take note of the date and time. |

No, now he’s upset that he’s waited this long and it will be more costly and proof he has no real plan.
It’s always a lose/lose with RW. |

Why all the JJ hate today, Corsi wise he was our third best defenseman last night. Isn't this what we want from our players?
I didn't watch the game, my one question on the forwards is; with an AHL type lineup for the Jets 'D' how did their goalie make 37 saves on 38 shots. Our forwards should have been buzzing the front of the net, ex. Tipping shots, creating screens and banging rebounds. |

Time to start talking about the draft...
Oh, i really had to smile about this quote:

Hahah it's only 3 games in, and a lot can happen before April, but where I was once having no prob packaging a 1st with JJ to rid of him, I feel a bit of weariness sneaking in to do so. |

Exactly. People take what our first pair does for granted so every mistake is overblown out of proportion. OFC Letang is regressing due to age, but whats the alternative? Will you trade him for a better D? Impossible. We dont have the pieces.
Last night this thread was awful. Murray had 2 great games, last night he was bad, like every goalie is once in a while and everyone was ready to kill him. He has 2 cups, the numbers back him up as a great Goalie. There's no mystery. - Conse
Subban is elite and he has been traded twice for lesser players. There is almost nothing that is impossible when it comes to trades. |

Exactly. There's a lot of hindsight is 20/20 "I told you so" going on here. Just about every GM is a mixed bag of good and bad, some of which is unforeseen, as in the case of Brassard. Who knew he was going to drop off a cliff? I'd be willing to bet RW praised it at the time, just like most of us did.
At least JR's bad usually involves lower-tier players, but yes, the cumulative effect of losing assets and cap space adds up over time.
I'll also add that putting Fleury and a 2nd round pick on the "out" side of the ledger is also unfair, given that it was due to the expansion draft and almost all of us agreed that Murray was the cheaper, younger, and potentially better goalie. JR's hands were kind of tied on that one. |
