In other news,

The Olofsson and Dahlin duo (and "Red Robin" Reinhart) are tearing new buttholes into teams and into poor Rafi.

If nobody knows this Olofsson dude yet, you will. You will.

Kruger is doing a fine job over there....I’m not surprised either

Buddy, Lucic is the reason you guys lose games. He’s nothing but a forward version of Phaneuf.

Whatever Neal does is just a bonus. The reason EDM won this trade is because Lucic is gone, I think he is quite possibly the worst player in the entire league but his reputation for rugged 2005 hockey has somehow kept him in the league (well, Chiarelli's brutal GM skills also kept him in the league).

I almost drafted him. If one of you heartless bastards had grabbed D Strome, Olofsson would be mine.

So what you're saying is that the suffering of our lord Larsson isn't enough to appease the hockey gods?
- EdmHockeyMan

I’ll hold off judgement for awhile and wait till we play some of the beast teams, but I honestly don’t think we’re that much worse off. Guys that can move the puck can do so much for a team. And larsson ain’t that

If he’s back by the dog days in the middle of the season I think it’s fine

If we go on a losing streak, the koolaid drinkers on twitter will be screaming it’s because we don’t have him.

Yeah. I know him. He’s on the opposite team I’m facing this week.

I've kinda stopped pumping Larsson's tires myself. I guess he just never will be able to provide consistent support offensively which is all I wanted to see him add to his game (didn't/doesn't seem far fetched based on his time in the Swedish leagues, 2014-2015 season w/NJ, the 2017 playoffs, the worlds, and his moments when he tries to push the puck or build/be a part of an attack).

RIP 40 point Larsson. Even 30 points at this point is a reach for him realistically if he just cannot find any consistency offensively. Pretty hard for me to admit that.

Defensively, he has stumbled as of late and I sincerely hope he picks up his play when he comes back cause when he is on his game defensively, he helps us out quite a bit.

Just trying to be realistic about where he stands from my viewpoint, even if it may mean blasphemy.

Keep this up and you’ll earn yourself a burning.

Preferably before I play you next week.

Honestly feel like this is a kind of a big game.

Playing an average team that’s struggling team on the second of back to backs.
We’re running kinda hot and need to keep the momentum going as long as possible before we inevitably hit some speed bumps.
Especially with a roster on paper that could nosedive at anytime.

I’m cool with hall getting a few points for the mighty east van plugs, but the oilers need this one to gain some much needed confidence

Flames are still happy with the trade. Neal was never going to do anything with the Flames except pout and do nothing in the bottom six. He's not better than Tkachuk so wasn't going to get the stand in front of the net job on the PP. Lucic has been far better than advertised and has looked like a somewhat decent hockey player. He adds far more to the team than Neal ever did and the Flames saved the cap space they needed.

Remember Joe Colborne's first game after the Flames didn't bring him back? Hat trick. How did the rest of his season go? Write another blog when Neal gets to ten goals in January.

There's really no way the trade can be a loss for the Flames. Neal was worse than useless in Calgary and they saved money. Healthy scratch Lucic the rest of his contract and they still come out ahead.

You just can’t justify this trade, hunkulese. Lucic has been terrible for you guys so far and you gave your greatest rival their best goal scorer so far this season.

Watch the games. Lucic has been fine. He wins battles, he keeps the play going when he gets the puck, and he protects his teammates. That's all the Flames need from him.

So far this season is three games. Neal won't be their best scorer. He's also been awful 5v5. How's RNH enjoying playing with Neal when he's expected to do more than stand in front of the net?

Let them be happy. Don’t care

We got rid of an anchor that was pretty much buyout proof and weda had to protect in expansion.
And we also got a guy that’s scored a few goals for us thus far.
Massive win for the oilers.

If flames fans feel the same way, then cool. Win win.

That's basically it. Neal benefits the most by suddenly becoming the 2nd best winger on the Oilers. He's on pretty much the only team in the league where he has a chance to succeed.

If Neal was still on the Flames, he'd be the 7th or 8th best winger and doing nothing in the bottom six.

Sorry but if Neal is playing to his norm, he is the 3rd or 4th best winger on the Flames. Maybe last year he was 7th or 8th. But its fair to say last year was an anomaly and not the norm.
