What if dahlins minutes are being limited now in preparation for more ice time after we make a trade for a minute eating defenseman when Montour comes back

His minutes were limited last night because he wasn’t good. If he plays well, He will get played more. [url]

I would just like to remind folks that all summer and at the draft when we were all sitting here daily saying how badly we needed a 2C.... I kept bringing up Marcus Johansson as my choice for that spot.

People kept saying to throw huge money at Duchene, trade for Turris out of NSH, sign Dzingel, trade for Kevin Hayes, then it was that we needed Brian Boyle, or even Brassard.

I wanted Marcus Johansson.... and we got him. It's funny how this keeps happening. For those that have been around a while... this also happened with Chris Steward, Steve Ott, Evander Kane, and ROR.

I'm an InsiDeRRRRRRRRR. I'll keep whispering for DeBrincat or Hertl.

Assuming you are saying Risto for a minute eating Dman to play next to Dahlin,
I'm not sure who would make that trade, as most teams needing a D are hurting there already.
It would have to be an rather unique situation...but maybe I'm wrong.

In my post above where I'm suggesting they move Mitts into 2RW for awhile, if that clicks then it addresses their need for a top 6 player.

That means when the D is healthier, they could absolutely move Risto for a middle six player...an upgrade to Vesey-ERod-Sobtka line I suggested...hopefully at C or RW. Risto should be able to land a very solid 3rd liner.

Screw that!
Can you start focusing on McDavid or Matthew's for Risto where they retain like $6m AND take Okposso ( for Cap purposes).

This team can score, they have proved that

They have some skill for sure

Still need a better 2nd line RWer (Ehlers?)

But if this team is really going to make the next steps to be a playoff team and a legitimate one at that, they need to clean up play in their end.

We knew that the PP was going to be better under Krueger, hell Edmonton's was really really good when he took over and they had half the talent the Sabres have.

But I don't see how they can survive on PP goals alone.

That being said they are 3-0-1 Eichel is 1 point out of the league leaders in points, Dahlin is leading defensemen in points (also 1 point out of the league lead in points for all players), Oloffson is leading all rookies in goals, Reinhart has 5 points in 4 games, Skinner has 3 goals and 4 points, Mojo looks like a legit 2nd line center, and Hutton has won all 3 of his starts.

There is still work to be done, but I like what I am seeing.

if a defenseman is moved out (risto) they certainly shouldn't be taking another one back in

pilutl and montour both will be back and will both deserve to play

They are winning games, and stealing points.

They have flaws, but they are getting results which I wasn't sure they could overcome. They seem cohesive, and I tend to believe Krueger when he says that the team has bought in from the beginning. They are playing well, and have a lot of room to improve.

I saw this on twitter yesterday from a random person

Did Elliot Friedman really say 30 scouts were in buffalo last night looking at Risto?

It's almost Bills like, except the offense is carrying the Sabres and the defense is carrying the Bills.

Seems like both coaches have gotten their players to buy in.

Keep winning games!!!!!

im still perplexed by risto's ice time

hes playing better but we have depth now, and the depth is also playing pretty good. hopefully its just to showcase him as a workhorse for a trade when montour or pilut are back

I think i typed the opposite of my thoughts.

I was saying if Risto gets moved Dahlin would see a big increase in ice time and the limited minutes now were in preparation for that.

His minutes are being limited because his defensive game needs work. You don't need to guess to figure it out, because Krueger came right out and said that was going to be the case before the season even started. It's not the giant mystery that a lot of people around here are acting like it is.

Right?

I mean he is 19 years old. Anyone can see that he isn't the greatest in his own end.

That being said his offensive skill set is what lead him to be the 1st overall pick. Keep putting him in positions to succeed there while his game in the D zone keeps developing.

Only 3 goals, and 4 points. What a JABRONI. Trade him while we can get a 7th rounder while retaining 3M on that salary or WE'LL REGRET IT. RIGHT RIPPPPPPPED.

Krueger said he wasn't going to just throw him out there. They're really working with him and trying to round out his game. He's got superior skill. I will say I love that the coach is coming out and saying "The kid is good, but he has areas that need work."

For those of the younger generation, who were not around to see Gilbert Perrault play live, consider Jack's 2nd goal as vintage Gilbert.
Take the puck deep in his own end, circling around to gain speed as he gathers the puck,
Moves out of his end continuing to build speed and dekes the 1st opposing player with ease, so graceful,
Crosses the red line, head up survey his attack approach,
Crosses the blue line where he is met by 1, 2 and 3 opposing players and controls the puck easily making them all look rather silly
.
.
.
At that point, the similarity ends...Jack rifles a bullet for the goal...
Gilbert normally beats the 3 defenders, breaks through and is 1:1 with the goalie...normally ends in another artful display beating the goalie rather badly, embarrassing actually.

Gilbert continues to be my favorite Sabre, and whom I would still rate as their greatest...with a very strong head nod to Dom...wish they could have played together...oh my!,,

- IonSabres

If the Sabres would have had Hasek in '75, they would have beaten the Flyers. The goaltending and coaching were the Sabres downfall.
