Hayes scored for PP1 right off the draw

GG last night I wasn’t bored and start doing work at home stuff.
Good to see the devils a mess last night being that they were getting a lot of love.
It’s still early so they may improve but I’m certainly not rooting for them.

I was always skeptical. Everyone freaked out when they made those additions but their defense still sucks and goaltending is suspect at best

That was a really solid win.

Are the assistant coaches still off limits? If not, I was wondering if anyone had asked Therrien why Sanheim has been removed from the PP units entirely.

Flyers looked great. Loving the Hayes addition. He just does so many little things. His penalty was bad but damn if we get that consistently from him, he will have a career year.

Wait until NoPa is healthy as well. This team is going to a force with Coots, Hayes, NoPa and Laughton down the middle.

Issue I saw from the outset with NJ was goaltending and their D corps. Subban is a big name pickup, but he's a one way dman. Also, NJ doesn't have bottom six or bottom 2 depth. I said to myself that if Schneider isn't healthy and rebound to top form, they are toast. NYR is the more dangerous squad IMO with better goaltending and a bit better depth, and even they have some big holes.

Didn’t watch but Even though they didn’t score I’m happy to hear that PP1 looks different and the players are moving around. PP2 with 2 goals early in the season hopefully AV gets them out there earlier during the PP

The defense pairings seem right

People can complain about spending for Braun and Niskanen but they are definite upgrades from Gudas and MacDonald. Braun doesn't seem flashy but seems to just eat minutes doing the right things. There was a noticeable change in the Defensive demeanor in their own zone compared to last year. I wouldn't chalk it all up to those guys, certainly Sanheim looked calmer and Provy looked to be showing a lot of leadership even during stoppages.

Very satisfying last night.

I even enjoyed the Raffl-Pitlick line. Not sure Bunnaman is a fixture there but the other two seemed to be involved in either physical play or pushing the play up ice all night. At least twice I found myself noticing Pitlick was responsible for some aggressive play.

- shekkie

Once Patrick returns Bunnaman or Twarinski will be sent down.

Then we may see Patrick centering Raffl and Pitlick until he gets fully up to speed.

I’m not saying I wouldn’t give the top line more time to work but would any of you consider JvR-Giroux-Voracek as a line short term until Patrick returns?
- SuperSchennBros

That 'top line' is fine. They're creating chances, hitting posts, etc. The goals will come.

Yeah. I think that was the plan all along, but it's nice to see them gelling. Important win and I look forward to seeing how they match up with teams like Boston, TO and Tampa. IF they hold their own vs these powerhouses, then I'm very impressed. I think they will if only because of their better size down the middle and goaltending.

I'm over the moon about Hart's potential. As Bernie noted, the sky is the limit for this guy, and I think he'd be a good judge of that.

There is a lot less running around with their heads chopped off, they are actually clearing the puck and they seem more structured too.

Bunnaman should go down first. The coaches trust Twarynski more.

Hayes looked good, really strong on the puck. He seemed to always be involved. Dare I say great signing?

Braun even seemed to be a nice steady vet presence. Good to see the team get a win and start the season off on the right foot.

What more can be said about Hart, awesome to see him get his first shut out in the home opener. Couldn't have written it better!

Also while the goal was nice, I was more happy to see Provorov playing aggressively and well all over the ice. He looked like a top pairing guy last night.
- BiggE

This. The goal was great and all, but with Provorov, it's more about how he plays than the results (which will come the better he plays). He was aggressive in all 3 zones and was more of the player from 2 years ago as opposed to last year.

I thought the same thing.

Same for Provorov, he almost looked mad that he scored...but he's Russian, so I'll forgive him.

Every player should do that, at a minimum, every time he scores.

Or in the case of an NBA star, every time he makes a 3-pointer in a preseason game while completely unguarded against a Chinese team...you know, the kind of shot your average high school sophomore could make from time to time.

That's a great sign, hopefully he can suit up Tuesday or Wednesday.
