Also, Evander Kane back from his suspension tonight. Hope someone from the Hawks put him in his place early in the game before he starts taking liberties against Hawk players.

He came back vs Nashville. He was pretty good in that game, but NSH frustrated him quite a bit with tight checking.

The things that I want to see are:
1) Crisp passing
2) More evenly distributed PP time. There is no reason to keep loading the first line with 80% of the PP time.
3) Communication and cohesiveness between the forward and D on defense.

I'm worried about playing San Jose after 4 loses and the Hawks long lay off.
I may be wrong about this, but after watching only one game of the Hawks and a few other games of various teams the Hawks still seem slower then most.

But it sure would be nice to see this team play WAY more aggressively. Speed alone means nothing if you can't get the puck through the neutral zone, or have the stones to play dump and chase when they stack the red line.

And please.... dump the man to man D coverage in favor of a traditional zone. Even with Murphy and DeHaan (TBD) back, none of our D can catch fast forwards. Own your zone and block passing and shooting lanes.

Sharks are definitely much better than 0-4 suggests, at least on paper. Idk what the Hawks are yet. We might end up sucking, or it’s also possible we end the season making the playoffs as a legit contender again. Very wide range of possibilities with this Hawks team I honestly have no clue what to expect. But I’m almost certain the Sharks are gonna be just fine.

Can you really have a trap game on game #2 of an 82 game season? Yes, there are some odd circumstances surrounding the game (overseas to start, 6 days between games, first home game, etc), but a trap game typically means that they are looking past this opponent to the next, typically more difficult or rival, opponent.

If SJ plays the same way they have to start the year, this is going to be a "track meet". Both teams seem to like to push the pace and counter quickly, with (up to this point) less of an emphasis on structure. It can easily go either way.

Not trying to pick a fight here, but why would you say that? Couture and Kane are good players paid what they should be, but they have a 400 yr old Thornton, Vlasic is 32 and signed for the next 7 yrs at $7M/yr (and we complain about Seabs), and if you have watched him this year you would wonder how he got anything north of $5M/yr, Karlsson is clearly not the same player, is 29 and at 11.5 for the next 8. Burns is still pretty good, but he's 34 and on the hook for $8/yr for the next 5yrs. Martin Jones has been 2.4 GAA and above for the last three years. They just lost virtually all of their depth this offseason. I know that I shouldn't consider contracts when addressing how they look on paper (as an actual hockey team), but it looks like a big bag of turds over there.
