Hynes watch begins. Since the lockout (I believe), every 1st pick overall has had a coaching change within their entry-level contract. Auston Matthews being the exception and Hischier and Hughes (for now). Still, if Babcock does get fired (as expected at the end of the year unless the Leafs win a Cup), then a 1st overall picks 1st coach lasts only for 4 years at most.

2004 - Ovechkin: 1st coach, Glen Hanlon in 05, replaced by Boudrea in 07
2005 - Crosby: 1st coach, Eddie Olcyzk in 05, replaced by Therrien next season
2006 - Erik Johnson: 1st coach, Andy Murray in 07, replaced by Payne in 10
2007 - Patrick Kane: 1st coach, Denis Savard in 07, replaced by Quenneville in 08.
2008 - Steve Stamkos: 1st coach, Barry Melrose in 08, replaced by Tochet in 08.
2009 - John Tavares: 1st coach, Scott Gordon in 09, replaced by Capuanno in 10.
2010 -12 & 15-Edmonton Oilers, Nuff said
2013 - Nathan MacKinnon: 1st coach Patrick Roy in 13, replaced by Bednar in 16.
2014 - Aaron Ekblad: 1st coach Gerard Gallant, replaced by Rowe in 16.
2015 - see Oilers
2016 - Auston Matthews: Babcock survived Matthews entry-level contract. Might not last this year.
2017, 2018 - Nico Hischier and Jack Hughes. Hynes may go this year.
2018 - Rasmus Dahlin: 1st coach Phil Housley, replaced by Krueger this year.

Playing Wood against top competition all night and can't even use his speed to back check. What's the point.

Not as bad as previous games but we still look like a bad team. It amazes me how easy it is for other teams to break out of their zone. For all the speed we have we are terrible at pressuring the puck.

PK back on the bench, hope it was just an equipment issue or maybe something to do with the concussion protocol after some hit I didn't notice.

Devils are better tonight than they were the last two... we'll see where this goes. They still need to complete more passes.

Of course, the Palms goal was off the rush.

Another shuffling of lines tonight. Notably: Zacha-Hughes-Simmonds and Gusev-Rooney-Bratt

When is Wood gonna start to find the press box due to his horrible penalties? I know the flyers didnt score on his yesterday but these are killer, man

Boqvist-Zajac-Coleman would be a most welcome and worthwhile change. but I could be wrong. MAYBE Wood finds his game and is a 40pt forward that can hit and draw penalties with all that speed! I'll take 30 even... but with all the other good stuff ..

are you guys seriously trying to suggest not playing the guy who takes dumb penalties every game with the penalty kill that is operating at 50%?

Aside for Hall, Hughes and Schneider, the entire team looked like they were drugged last night. Not a single person outside of those three was engaged with the game, or trying to make something happen. They were physically unable to get out of their own zone and gave Hart the easiest night imaginable outside of that one shot from Hall.

The whole thing just looks so passive. I don't know if the point of their system is to sit back and counterattack, but they are always pinned in, and this has been a consistent problem for years under Hynes and I think contributes to them constantly being considered one of the softest teams in the league. Not saying he needs to go, but not nearly enough questions have been asked about how he organizes this team.

mmm, there was more than one. He had a few great saves. There was one with about 1:45-2:00 left in the 1st that should have been buried, but the kid made a great save

Found it.

But for the most part, yeah, they came off sluggish.

Yeah, that's a penalty. But what about the hold on Hall? Garbage officiating.

oh, I guess the "intent" the ref showed by blowing his whistle was that he knew it was going to be a goal before the puck went into the net.

Remember when Devils had goals called back because of "intention" to blow the whistle. Pepperidge farm remembers.

it's a good thing. we gave a point to a western conference team. so it won't hurt us making the playoffs, and if we're not a playoff team and want to finish worse in the standings, it gives Edm a point!

Let's see if Blackwood learned to use his stick or if hell just let them walk in.
