I actually think dedication to a speed game is going to sink the pens. They have one exceptionally fast player. Sid geno tanger are trending slower. Time to structure up and let there talent do it’s thing. |

See if he will sign for 1 year for league minimum, only 2 goals were on the PP, good at faceoffs. When everyone is healthy you play him, trade him, or trade someone else and recoup a draft pick.
Have to still move a dman for cap reasons to do this, but pretty sound logic to acquire him for nothing then send him or someone else for draft capital. Last 2 years he's been traded for a 2nd round pick. Even if you get a 3rd, great job all the way around.
RW has rightly pointed out all the draft picks JR has sent away, this gets one back. - abcpens10

Yup, but what are the chances he gets on the first PP unit? I’d say zero. |

If the Pens can get rid of JJ I’d try and nab Honka for the 3rd pair. |

They might prefer Marino at this point. They obviously have a very high opinion of him, keeping him on the roster despite the logjam of mediocrity |

I think he's decent so I'd add him if there's space, but he's another righty. |

Honka isn’t a lefty?
EDIT: My bad. I looked it up. I thought he was a lefty. |

Man... They should keep Guddy. If you want to clear a little space to sign Boyle, just demote JJ. Should clear enough. What happens if Marino really struggles? Are they seriously considering a rookie to carry JJ?
I agree with RW.... Signing Boyle is a Matt Cullen move. Once everybody gets healthy he'll get a jersey over Blueger because he's the "proud vet".
I don't know if Vanek has anything left, but he's the guy I'd look at over Boyle if they're going to dumpster dive. |

That is correct, I was looking at the wrong column on his stats page. Still, free asset, and can gain a draft pick by dealing him later on or someone else.
He did a similar thing with Mike Condon a few years back, claiming him off waivers then dealing him for a 5th round pick.

Also you just know that GMJR will go chasing toughness again. Each time he does we lose a bit of skill. |

No question. JR will be looking for another serviceable tough guy at the TDL. Quit digging holes! |

It's always nice to have proven talent at the NHL level on cheap deals, might be worth it. I'd like to see what Pominville is up to. I think he is still unsigned and he looked pretty decent last season. |

@Boyd I was the one who said watch for the Pens to be in on Boyle
He 100% seems like the kind of guy GMJR would be in on, he would come cheap, could become an asset later on when we’re healthy, and it could push Blueger - who I think looked really poor in his own zone last game at times - to the wing for a bit |

Not too many defensemen on a second pair that get less than 4M when their contract is up, regardless of how good they are. - Tojo.
He was tied for 77th in d scoring last year. There are 124 top 4 D spots in the NHL. He hits, he fights, we’ve seen him steady in the 18-20 minute range, and in his first season he elevated everyone not named Letang. I still think he’s going to be fine but he definitely needs some work below the hashmarks in his own zone at this level. Most of the names ahead of him in scoring last season are 5MM+ players. We certainly weren’t looking at giving him term near that, but there’s certainly a possibility that he plays himself up from the 3-3.5 we previously discussed up to the 4.5-5.5 depending on this season |

If Hornqvist is in, think I'd put him on the second line with McCann and Tanev. A line with ZAR and Hornqvist together feels pointless. |

I dunno, Boyle as a free asset at really cheap isn’t the worst idea. I don’t really want him and it totally seems like a GMJR move but I feel like there’s been worse moves. It’s not like the Pens will ever fully be healthy so there will always be a spot for him hahah |

I kind of agree....he would be good for the PK as well and wouldnt cost losing an asset. |

I heard on the radio Simon was practicing on the first PP. We are missing the guy who carried the puck the most last year, Kessel. This is a big opportunity for him, let's see how he handles it.
Once again I won't be watching the game but will catch some here and there between my matches. |

I’m all for this. I love his puck skills and his anticipation. Maybe it doesn’t work but it’s worth a shot
I agree that Boyle would be a nice addition to the PK but also in the dot for sure. I think he’s an improvement over Cullen. The guy beat cancer, that’s gotta be motivating for the locker room |

Well, it will be when he trips over Letang while skating towards the bench for a line change. This time, though, he will fall directly on top of Letang and his 6'7" 250 lb body will crush our beloved Kristopher into a crepe. Both out on for the rest of the season.

This is one of the reasons I think good for PK. PKing being one of the times IMO faceoffs are truly important. |

Supposedly Simon's strength is carrying the puck thru the neutral zone. Should be a fit for him. |

With Malkin on LTIR they will have enough to sign Boyle.
They should do it.
I disagree with RW.
