I didn't expect to be this impressed with Marino. Kid is playing well.
- madmike71

Definitely. I know you think he should get some seasoning in the A, but I think he might be one of those guys who is better served by playing in the NHL. There is the risk that he develops bad habits that he can get away with playing against inferior competition. I mean, a young guy with years of ELC salary vs. a guy who tops out as third pairing for $4M per, sign me up!

I also think the comparison to Pouliot doesn't apply here. Pouliot is soff, both mentally and physically.

Didn't a D prospect come back with Galchuynk?

If you send him down, it wouldn't count towards the cap.

That's not the point of 1 and 2 way contracts or how they work

Man that was a pretty solid effort overall...they had a bad stretch in the 2nd the Ducks piled up a few chances but to be throwing shade at their game tonight , especially given the roster circumstances is a bit much.

Why are the Ducks such a bad team ?

- MattStrat

Great question, Matt. They’re not star studded but with them icing Manson, Fowler, Lindholm, and Ghoule in their top 4 they’re good enough on the back end and they’re players are spotted appropriately up front to play a tight game. They’ll likely have very few 4 or 5 goal games this season but to say they’re a bid team is misinformed imo. This is a competitive team that is light on franchise forwards

Also replying to Boyd - Tanev hasn’t just had big hits and lost the puck in the corners. He’s had a couple nice defensive plays and he’s already drawn like what, 5 penalties?

We should ban together and get Simon a trophy. It says thank you for your good angles, zone entries, hustle and ability to drop your stick. Also thanks for your 4 goals playing with a generational playmaker. Kinda sounds like we’re giving it to the special needs kid, doesn’t it?

Yinz all like Tanev for all the same reasons lol dude hasn’t done squat on the scoreboard since being signed. Usually just enters the zone really fast and loses the puck in the corner. But he’s fast and noticeable and hits so everyone’s like yeahhh he’s good!
- j.boyd919

Simon is decent at swating pucks free and knocking them around the o zone like ping pong balls for Sid to clean up. Tanev however would just hit the guy knocking the puck free for Sid to clean up and create space. I have seen nothing of Simon to say his hands are any greater than Tanevs. No crisp passes and I can’t think of one time the little turd has put a decent shot on net.

Boyle or ZAR- who would you pick? Just curious. Both have similar roles. Both can kill penalties. Neither are top 6 wingers.

Sure he backchecks. So does Simon. My point is they aren’t that different other than hits and “speed” but everyone hates on Simon when Tanev is pretty god damn similar.

So last night if you add the normal scoring chances and the high danger changes together for each team the chances were 33-33. Are HDSC's a matter of opinion to the person tracking them? I ask because I could of swore Sids line had 3 or 4 alone in the 3rd, yet the tracking is saying the Pens only had 5 HDSC the entire game. I dont agree with that...and I missed a huge chunk of the 1st.

Offense abilities seem very similar....Where Tanev is faster I find Simon does smarter things. I only have a 4 game sample size with Tanev though really...but so far I'm glad they have him. Also glad they have Simon.

Last night in the 3rd, with about 15 minutes left he had a decent opportunity from the high slot. He tried to 6 hole last night. That second goal, the only reason they got out of the zone is because Simon, not to mention he tied up his man in front of the net.

Exactly. That’s exactly my point lol but people prefer Tanev because he’s “noticeable.” When so many plays die when he enters the zone with the puck and just goes to the corner and gets rubbed off it lol I’m not saying Tanev sucks but I am saying he ain’t nearly as special as everyone is making him out to be.

It’s not all about crisp passing plays man. Simon makes/negates plays simply by having good positioning, taking good angles, and by not dumping it in every single shift except that one time Tanev tried to stickhandle directly through a guy

Tanev carries the puck in the zone a bunch of times. He was just all by himself, if Malkins with him different story.
