his stick was swatted as he was making the pass, which put it on bustmania's stick - homiedclown
I thin Montreal should feel really lucky to get a point as Buffalo severely out played them:
- outshot them by a lot
- 2 Montreal goals (2 and 3) were caused by lucky bounces from behind the net. Hutton should have saved #3
-the 1st Montreal goal is correctible - Good play by Montreal but Jack peeled off the passer and Oloffson didn't stay with Armia. Buffalo got a bit lazy and paid for it.\
-We hit a few goalposts, including Jack late in the 3rd which would have given him a hat trick (but not a natural one as goal #1 was on the pp) |

then trade for value
go get Jesse Puljujarvi
plays RW
8 points in 9 games in europe - homiedclown
I wont argue Puju i think he could be had very cheap.middling prospect and a mid-late pick or something like that.
But both Silf and Sprong play RW and both have found success in the NHL.
Something Puju has yet to do.

Has Sprong really shown more success than Puljujarvi though?
Sprong 89 games 18g 10a
Puljujarvi 139 games 17g 20a
I would take the 6'3" 200+ pound Swede coming from a team that has a history of not handling it's prospects well over the smaller guy the Pens weren't afraid of trading away. |

From last blog:
Two reasons: first, we would have to send salary back to fit anyone in. Secondly, if they claimed him they would have to keep him up for 10 games I believe and then send him through waivers again. If they trade for him they can send him straight to Rochester. - adambuffalo
As I also said on the last blog when someone else replied to it as well, if they really were interested in him at all, they'd have figured it out back when he would have essentially been free.
and what exactly would the purpose of trading for him and sending him right to Rochester be? So he can be just as disgruntled here as he is in NY?
Sorry, but I just don't think he's a good fit at the moment and I have a suspicion that Jbotts and Krueger feel the same way otherwise they'd have found a way to make it work. |

Agree completely. It was nowhere near as bad as some made it seem. |

Something with Sobotka has got to give at some point.
Everything else has gone well for the Sabres. Including Risto |

"Ho-Sang has been sharing a message with multiple NHL teams. He let them know that “He will do whatever it takes to get a fresh start, including start in the American Hockey League.”
This was from after he cleared waivers. He was a former 1st round pick who may or may not still have potential for being a good middle 6 guy. If you can get him for Scandella while retaining 50% salary you are not only getting a young RW who can adjust to the team playing in Rochester, but even with retaining salary, you clear almost $2m in space. |

He still is leading all forwards in hits and blocked shots. Has is 71.4% on faceoffs while Mojo is 33.3% He is also a +2. Krueger seems to like him there, and although many disagree, he is doing what he's been asked to do.
What other grinder would you prefer there? |

From PHam:
Krueger said the Larsson line is the only line they have that hasn't had any slippage in the four games. |

How about a goal scorer?
Someone that is an actual offensive threat to score goals.
He is basically Zenon Konopka, but instead of taking the faceoff and then skating to the bench, he stays on the ice, and just limits anything that line can do offensively.
Put Kyle Okposo there. Literally anyone else.
Okposo deserves it. He has been playing lights out. |

Wadr, the sabres already have a reclamation project in Rochester--Lazar.
Not sure if taking on another one is a good move at this time |

Why would NYI make this trade? You're offering them negative value, even with salary retention.
GMTM may have taken the risk and claimed him. Seems clear that he's not a player JB wants anything to do with.

I really, really, REALLY want to like Risto, but man he went full out Risto with trying to clear the puck up the middle leading to the 2nd Montreal goal. Bit of a bad bounce but hard around the boards is all ways a better play then trying to clear up the middle. - hehateme
Not only was his stick swatted mid pass but it should have been the responsibility of someone else to not leave a man wide open in front of the net. Did we not think of that aspect yet?
Or per usual... It's all Risto or Sobotka's fault? |

He’s not wrong ..... it was very noticeable that the 4th line had a ton of offensive zone time yesterday. Which is shocking to think about. |

sounds about right... they tend to control the play and forecheck hard. they don't get many if any quality chances though. they have been better than what most expected of them but they are by no means an amazing 4th line either. but they are not the problem. we need two middle 6 players |

Okposo the goal scorer would not improve that line. They like Sobotka there to go into the corners and fight for the puck. He gets rid of it quickly and lets the skill guys handle the offensive part. KO is known for holding onto the puck too long, thus would likely have a negative impact on that line. |

they more than one time left people open in front of the night. in prior games you didn't see that as much if at all. they need to button things up and get back to hard work |

They are just oh so bad at scoring.
Maybe they are playing Sobodka on line two in hope that he would put some and get some assists so they could trade him? |

You may want to look at the Charts. Okposo is currently the Best Sabre for Corsi.
Sobodka is still one of the worst.
Okposo is generating at an insane rate.
Okposo would absolutely improve that line, and he deserves to show if he can, IMO. |

I think the more loose style yesterday had to do with the fact that they struggled against Columbus. They'll find a happy medium somewhere I think. Just gonna take a few tweaks and probably some mishaps along the way. |
