Yeah no.... that's not a real story.
Please stop spewing nonsense unless it's hockey related.
I'd tell you to stop saying nonsense altogether but that might be asking a bit much. - Scabeh
The observer is one of his paid off media outlets and put out this article the minute the 2.25 settlement was announced but doesn't even mention it. So this link has nothing to do with it. |

When was I ever talking about the 1st seed winning compared to the 2nd seed?
I said the top team on paper usually wins the presidents trophy.
However, usually doesn’t win the cup.
Losing 70% of the time in the playoffs are not good odds. - Santo_44
It's still better odds than any other team.
You are comparing the #1 seed against 15 other teams - it's not a fair comparison. |

I'm accurately reporting that you are a franking moron who is easily duped.
E5.
Doesn't it bother you to be so easily manipulated into voting against your own interests?
I guess you are simply too stupid to realize this. - Atomic Wedgie
You went ad hominem and then talked about voting which was never part of the conversation. |

Here is the talking in circles part I was talking about
Where the (frank) are you getting this 99% number from?
I said the best team(the presidents trophy winner) rarely wins the cup.
There are no numbers to compare here, they have won 30% of the time. Those odds aren’t good.
I don’t care about the odds of a 2nd seed, 7th seed or a 74387483th seed is. |

Yes they are because they're better than everyone else's.
Of course you don't care because then you'd have to admit your point is meaningless and generally wrong. |

You need to spend less time on weak insults and more time on doing research on facts.
President Trophy winner has won 8 Cups since it was invented in 1985/1986.
In addition to that, they went to 3 Finals, 6 Conference Finals and 9 Division Finals.
Find a seed with better playoff winning success.
Good luck.

8 out of 33 is 24.4%.
17 times out of 33 (51.5%), they qualify for the final four.
Nobody said it was a guaranteed Cup but it gives the winner better odds than any other seed. |

Wow.
You still don’t even know what you are arguing about.
I don’t care about the other damn seeds
I was simply stating that the best team on paper usually wins the presidents trophy.
The presidents trophy winner rarely wins the cup, unless you think 30% is good odds...the all the power to you.
I don’t care about the presidents trophy winners odds are to win in comparison to the 5th seed. It’s irrelevant.
I’ll dumb it down for you, forget what I said. 3 out of 10 is bad odds. That’s all you have to take from what I was saying. Please go now |

It is good odds because if you take two seconds to understand context you'd realize that compared to any other seed, it's actually great odds.
The rest of your post was largely irrelevant. |

back to hockey..
it is very clear that the 'advanced stats' that are available to public, are very rudimentary, and not at all that much used by nhl teams.
nhl teams are looking at much more sophisticated advanced metrics - and I wonder whether we could come up with some of the specific data / metrics nhl are looking at to make some of their decisions on player evaluations..
would be good to discuss that |

It’s going to get really fun now that they will do player tracking with chips in their jerseys. |

The really cool thing about this is there will be a huge data dump, and people will jump to wild conclusions at first.
Then we will start to figure out what’s actually useful.
Does a guy who skates more distance per shift indicate a better player or an inefficient player?
It’s going to rage for years. |

with the chip thing - i would reckon it's actually to some extent obsolete, since you could digitally 'tag' players and then do the same analysis?
as for 'advanced advanced metrics' - i would be particularly interested in turnover stats (e.g. how long does it take for a specific fw group to create a turnover by the other team, which part of the ice do they most effectively create turnovers, etc.) and in stats which would 'explain' the value of players that know how to 'determine the tempo' of the game (very important in any sports to slow down the play at certain moments and to speed up the pace in other segments/moments of the game). the last one is the epitome of the 'good old eye test'. |
